The Electric Choice Proposal

Coalition seeks amendment to let Floridians choose electricity source

The commission is reviewing Proposal 51, which would amend the state’s constitution to make it a right for the state’s electricity customers to choose their provider. The “electric choice” proposal is slated to come before a committee of the commission tomorrow.

If this should get on the November ballot, how would it affect our Lake Worth Electric Utility Plant if we can select our own power provider? Lake Worth would still deliver the electricity and do the repairs. At the moment, we buy our power from Orlando Utilities Commission.

Read about it... at The Palm Beach Post.

Sounds like this could put LW Electric out of business or they will need to lower prices and be more competitive. LW has the highest electric, water, and sewer, FPL is so much better! Do you know that in LW even if you do not use your utilities, but they are one, but all shut off at breaker, you still get a bill for almost $70 a month for all, without using anything at all. This is highway robbery on the city's part. FPL is so much cheaper. I hope this will make them change some and be more fair and just.

The city says that our residential rates are just about equal to FPL's.
However, the commercial rates are not.
It certainly might very well affect LW is this passes on the ballot and I cna't see why it wouldn't.
