Pope Francis has weighed into the debate over freedom of expression in the wake of the murderous attacks in Paris according to the article written at The Telegraph.
Pope Francis is the leader of the Catholic Church and he made these comments subsequent to the Islamic Jihad terror attack on the Charlie Hebdo newspaper. This is a satirical newspaper and to suggest that it got a deserved "punch in the nose" when in fact it was terrorist Jihad that took the lives of twelve people, is rather astounding. I personally believe the newspaper took it too far and provoked this deadly attack at its headquarters. All at Charlie Hebdo knew that they were dealing with crazy religious radicals and had been warned previously, over and over especially after the firebomb attack at their magazine in 2011. Those radicals have never been found.

In some respect I agree with the Pope. There is a lack of respect for religions and peoples personal religion. We think we have free speech and can say what we want, but it is wrong to offend another people or religion and the Pope is right it hurts groups and people should respect other religions. Two wrongs do not make a right and killing all those people with Charlie Hebdo was not right, but they also are offending a religion by there cartoons and comments. I would not like it as a Christian if a newspaper did that about my religion either. The Pope is right, we need to stop using free speech to speak badly about and show disrespect toward another religion. I am partial as I am a Christian follower. I don't think punching in the nose is right though either. We need to turn the other cheek and still love.
Based on the nasty cartoons that Charlie Hebdo did on the Pope I can understand how he feels. They need to respect all religious leaders, it is wrong. At least he didn't try to kill them, speaking out as he is is just fine and he is right!
