With the aim of reducing smoking, the Assistant Secretary at HHS said, "We are at an unprecedented time in our nation's history to protect the publics' health from tobacco use, the leading cause of preventable, premature death in the United States. It will take renewed commitment from every sector of society to end the tobacco epidemic."
The HHS is considering the use of graphic depictions on cigarette packs such as the picture of the feet of a dead body in a morgue. These pictures will cover one-half of the cigarette pack in order to give a strong message to the end user and illustrate the dangers of smoking.
