Marvel star Mark Ruffalo backs petition telling Democrats to dump Jeffries for speaker
Marvel star Mark Ruffalo is promoting a Change.org petition that urges House Democrats to reject Hakeem Jeffries as speaker, branding the Israel ally “simply not the right choice.”Breitbart News reported that the Avengers actor is pushing an online petition aimed at House Democrats, calling on them to deny Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries the speakership if his name is put forward again.
The drive sits at the fault line inside the Democratic Party over Israel. Jeffries has long backed the Jewish state’s right to exist and has kept that stance through the war with Hamas. Ruffalo and the petition treat that record as disqualifying.
The petition on Change.org addresses members of a newly elected House and frames the January 2027 speaker vote as their chance to pick someone else. It says Jeffries has already served as House Democratic leader and has been nominated for speaker before. Then it draws a hard line.
