Taiwan Elects New President, La Ching-te, Defying China's Warnings
Taiwan on Thursday warned China not to “cross the line” saying that it wants peace but will defend its people.“Don’t cross the line. China again flew fighter jets into Taiwan’s Air Defense Identification Zone today. Make no mistake, Taiwan wants peace but we will defend our people,” Vice President of Taiwan, Lai Ching-Te said in a tweet. Now he's just been elected as President.
Voters in Taiwan elected Vice President Lai Ching-te as their next president on Saturday, defying warnings from Beijing not to support a candidate it has called a separatist and a “troublemaker.”
The election, which China had described as “a choice between war and peace,” could test recent efforts by Beijing and Washington to repair relations that in recent years have fallen to their lowest point in decades.
The status of Taiwan, one of the strongest democracies in Asia, is among the most sensitive issues between the two superpowers, and focus will now turn to any potential show of force from Beijing in response.

If you want to defend (Militarily) a Taiwan separate from China, I think you will be marching in there alone.
The world and countries are not United now like in the past, many do not respect biden and the USA any more due to his incompetence.

Taiwan has a very complicated history that the US would do well to stay out of. The One China Policy has to be maintained.
