Protest at Lake Worth City Hall on Code Violations

Lake Worth residents and others protest Operation Red Tag

Last night there was a demonstration, organized by the Palm Beach County Tenant's Union, in front of City Hall. It was just ending as I arrived at city hall at my regular time...5:30.

By the time I got into the chamber, it was half full of people who wanted to speak in front of the commission. The meeting began at 6pm and one speaker actually told the commission that they were pursing a "racist" agenda. That is the favorite word of progressives when they don't like something. When I hear someone utter the word "gentrification," it reminds me of yesteryear when an outspoken anarchist was on our dais. It is possible that over zealous code officers make a mistake from time to time but let them do their job.

Half of this city is a slum and our code Department has been diligently trying to clean up our city.

Asking people to follow rules is not racist. I want MORE code officers in our city. As a matter of fact I would love to see them come by Sunset Dr ,west of I-95 after 5 PM to ticket the cars parking in the front yards over here.If the protesters want to live in a slum they can get the hell out of Lake Worth that is trying to be a nice place for NORMAL tax paying residents to live.

I too love code enforcement. I mistakenly missed my registration by a WEEK and as luck would have it my car happened to be scanned parked outside my house in downtown, ticketed and tagged. I love it. I hope they keep it up. Tag everything!! Go up and down H and J streets you’ll make your $.

I could not agree more with Lynn and this comment. Codes are in place for a reason. Sometimes Codes are required by the State and/or the County and sometimes Codes are for the safety and protection of all residents (they are in place for valid reasons, none of which are racially, economically or socially motivated). Please hire more Code Officers (and staff to direct and support their activities) and clean up the entire City. The fines issued should easily cover the cost. It would also be great if the Police and/or Code Officers would issue parking tickets to all of the illegally parked cars (parked in the wrong direction, parked at intersections, parked on the grass, parked on the medians, parked on sidewalks, parked in front of fire hydrants, parked at stop signs, blocking mail boxes, gates and entries. Furthermore, cars that are parked blocking the sidewalks so that children and residents are forced to walk in the street should also be ticketed. Finally, residents who do not like to see their own pickup trucks, work trucks, or unsightly vehicles should not be parking them in front of neighbors' homes and/or a block away from the owner's home. If the owner of a vehicle does not like looking at their own vehicle in front of their home, neither do your neighbors. It is understandable that people want to have wells and save money on water. However, wells left untreated with proper chemicals are messy and result in unsightly rust stains everywhere (sidewalks, fences, homes, vehicles, etc.) If you want free water, do not subject your neighbors to the unsightly rust stains by refusing to treat your well with the required chemicals - this too is a code violation and must be addressed. Please put your trash bins in and out on the appropriate days - and put your bins behind your fence/property line out of view - as required by Code. No one wants to look at trash bins in the front yard or driveway on a permanent basis. Be considerate neighbors and take pride in our City and your neighborhood.

I know, we were driving down N D Street and N C street down to Lucerne yesterday, what a dump, the city looks like hell, for every once nice house/property, there are 30 others that are dumps. Does anyone follow rules or laws anymore? Does anyone in Lake Worth take pride in where they live?

Lake Worth is a true sanctuary city, it is very much like Oakland, CA. A real blighted dump!

I agree, we need rules and law and order, and no one has the right to enter our country illegally, no one is above the law, no one. They need to never allow any person coming into the USA illegally ever have a chance at citizenship, never ever!

Well you know that saying "poop attracts flies". That's what is happening in LW!

Lynn,
Do you know about the LW city meeting in the ballroom today with all the city managers of all departments? What is going on in Lake Worth with this meeting? The city is not getting all its federal funding now because of the shutdown is that the case? Will this impact the employees in the city?

They should take away salaries from all elected first over all the employees here.

This city is so fkedup! Can you find out about this meeting they are having today and what the outcome is? Is this public knowledge?

Nothing to do with the shutdown.
There was a department head leadership training there yesterday.
Don't know about today and the city clerk's office didn't know.
