Should Congress be Reformed?

Someone sent this to me--False news, Fake News...a myth that has been circulating since 2019 BUT a few good ideas in it especially now more so than ever. Trump has nothing whatsoever to do with this spam. Congress is extending its recess until May 4 to avoid transmitting coronavirus but they sure can run their mouths a lot.

Both the House and Senate are operating in pro forma sessions twice a week in which any single lawmaker can object. Democrats are holding up stimulus as hostage for their non-coronavirus issues.

Proposed 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution:

"Congress shall make no law that applies to the citizens of the United States that does not apply equally to the Senators and/or Representatives; and, Congress shall make no law that applies to the Senators and/or Representatives that does not apply equally to the Citizens of the United States ..."

The TRUMP Rules: Congressional Reform Act of 2017

1. No Tenure / No Pension. A Congressman/woman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they're out of office. And, no more perks go with them.
2. Congress (past, present, & future) participates in Social Security. All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose.
3. Congress must purchase their own retirement plan, just as ALL Americans do.
4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.
5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.
6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people (i.e. NO MORE INSIDER TRADING!!!).
7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen/women are void. The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen/women. Congress made all these contracts by and for themselves.

Serving in Congress is an honor and privledge NOT a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators should serve their term(s), then go home and go back to work … not get all kinds of freebies.

It is too bad as Americans we could not impose all of this on the elected in this country at every level. Term limits, 2 years and that is it! No more special benefits!

This is false. Good luck finding a congressman or senator to introduce legislation to this effect.

@8:52...already said that in my first sentence. However, Snopes is not an authority on everything and many times it is biased.

There are actually some very good Senators. That's the problem with term limits.

The only answer is an educated public that votes. Just like in Lake Worth. You can't force people not to be stupid. It would be nice if you could, but you can't.
