Biden-era policy granted US entry to low-level Taliban workers

Hundreds of former Taliban government workers were greenlit to resettle in the United States under a Biden administration policy that’s raising more than a few eyebrows, as Just the News reports.

In a nutshell, this controversial exemption, rolled out in June 2022, allowed certain Afghan refugees, including low-level “civil servants” who worked under the Taliban, to bypass terrorism-related barriers and make a new home in America.

Tens of thousands of Afghans were airlifted out of Hamid Karzai International Airport during a frenzied non-combatant evacuation operation, but watchdog reports and witness accounts have since slammed the vetting process as riddled with serious flaws.

These exemptions targeted specific groups, like Afghans who served as “civil servants” under the Taliban during two distinct periods -- before the 9/11 attacks and after the 2021 takeover -- as well as those who supported U.S. military interests against the Taliban or Soviet forces.

According to a DHS report to Congress for fiscal year 2024, a staggering 6,848 exemptions were granted under this policy, with 6,653 of those for refugees. It's a sharp spike from just 603 in 2022 and a mere 191 in 2021.

Former DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas defended the move.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken of the State Department fails again. Blinkin is refusing to turn over to Congress a 2021 memo that had warned the Biden administration that its Afghanistan withdrawal would devolve into an absolute nightmare.

However, Blinken’s ignoring the congressional timeline to release the memo will reportedly not go unpunished.

The Wall Street Journal reports that a classified memo was sent on July 13, 2021, to Blinken and Director of Policy Planning Salman Ahmed ahead of the United States Aug. 31, 2021, troop withdrawal deadline. The memo warned that the Afghan government was at risk of collapse and that the Taliban’s advance was imminent should the US withdraw.

The memo indicated that the Afghan security forces would be crushed and the Taliban would enjoy rapid territorial gains.

Before the withdrawal, President Joe Biden claimed that a Taliban takeover and the Afgan governmental collapse were “highly unlikely.” Will we ever learn that Biden lies about everything?

Sgt. Tyler Vargas-Andrews, a U.S. Marine Corps sniper who served in Afghanistan during the surrender to the Taliban forces, testified before Congress on Wednesday. Vargas told Congress that he was denied permission to shoot the suicide bomber in Afghanistan that killed 13 service members and over 170 civilians.

I say when they release our citizens who are still behind enemy lines as well as our allies and bring back to life the 13 American soldiers who were blown to bits, pay for the $80 billion in weapons, give us back Bagram Airport, they might get some small consideration.
