National Guard soldier Andrew Wolfe ‘slowly healing’ after DC shooting, but has weeks to go

West Virginia National Guardsman Andrew Wolfe is beginning to “look more like himself” after he was shot the day before Thanksgiving in an ambush-style attack in Washington, D.C., which also claimed the life of fellow National Guard officer Sarah Beckstrom.

West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey relayed the update before attending a Friday night prayer vigil for Wolfe at Musselman High School in Berkeley County, from where the 24-year-old graduated.

Morrisey added that Wolfe’s head wound is “slowly healing,” and his family expects he’ll remain in acute care for another two to three weeks.

“They remain optimistic moving forward,” the governor said, citing Wolfe’s parents. “We continue to ask all West Virginians and Americans for their prayers! They are making a difference!”

Wolfe, a staff sergeant, had been deployed to the nation’s capital when both he and Beckstrom were shot in the head at close range on Nov. 26, just blocks away from the White House. They were in D.C. as part of the Trump administration’s efforts to crack down on what it has called rampant crime in major cities across the U.S.

29-year-old Afghan national Rahmanullah Lakanwal, then fired off another shot while screaming out, “Allahu Akbar,” an Arabic phrase meaning “God is great,” the documents said.

Andrew Wolfe, 24, both from West Virginia, and federal investigators scramble to uncover what drove him to this horrific, radical act after years in the U.S., as the New York Post reports.

Lakanwal first arrived in the United States on Sept. 8, 2021, through the Biden administration’s Operation Allies Welcome program, designed to resettle Afghans following the fall of Kabul to the Taliban. He passed initial security vetting upon entry, with no criminal history to raise red flags.

Later, in April of this year, under the Trump administration, Lakanwal was granted asylum after a second security review found no issues. It’s a bitter pill to swallow—how could someone who worked with the CIA in Afghanistan’s brutal “Zero Unit” paramilitary force slip through such scrutiny? The system seems blind to future intent, no matter how many checks are in place.

Investigators are now digging into Lakanwal’s four years stateside, trying to piece together what radicalized him after his arrival. Authorities note he drove 3,000 miles from Bellingham, Wash., to commit this attack near the White House, shouting “Allahu Akbar!” before opening fire, per a police report.

What flipped the switch in a man once deemed safe? He settled in Washington State where there are a lot of radicals and Antifa. There is also the Puget Sound John Brown Gun Club: This armed, left-wing group operates in Washington and is associated with the broader Antifa movement, providing firearms training and security at rallies...anti ICE, anti everything.

My guess--he ran into Antifa or some other radical group that tends to hold anti-authoritarian, anti-capitalist, anti-fascist, anti-racist, and anti-state views, that subscribes to a varied range of left-wing ideologies. It's very possible he got radicalized.

As investigators continue to probe what motivated a man to gun down two West Virginia National Guard members, killing one just blocks from the White House, officials said on Monday that the victim who survived the attack was making positive progress.

The suspect, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, a 29-year-old married father of five from Bellingham, Washington, allegedly drove cross-country to commit the Thanksgiving eve shooting in the heart of the nation’s capital, officials said.

Army Spc. Sarah Beckstrom and U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe, members of the West Virginia National Guard were "ambushed" while conducting "high visibility patrols" at the time of the attack, according to law enforcement officials. The 20-year-old Beckstrom was killed while the 24-year-old Wolfe was critically injured, authorities said.

During a news conference on Monday afternoon, West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey said Wolfe is in serious condition and is "fighting for his life."

Morrisey revealed "some positive news" about Wolfe's condition, saying that when a nurse asked him to give a thumbs up if he could hear, "he did respond."

Hundreds of former Taliban government workers were greenlit to resettle in the United States under a Biden administration policy that’s raising more than a few eyebrows, as Just the News reports.

In a nutshell, this controversial exemption, rolled out in June 2022, allowed certain Afghan refugees, including low-level “civil servants” who worked under the Taliban, to bypass terrorism-related barriers and make a new home in America.

Tens of thousands of Afghans were airlifted out of Hamid Karzai International Airport during a frenzied non-combatant evacuation operation, but watchdog reports and witness accounts have since slammed the vetting process as riddled with serious flaws.

These exemptions targeted specific groups, like Afghans who served as “civil servants” under the Taliban during two distinct periods -- before the 9/11 attacks and after the 2021 takeover -- as well as those who supported U.S. military interests against the Taliban or Soviet forces.

According to a DHS report to Congress for fiscal year 2024, a staggering 6,848 exemptions were granted under this policy, with 6,653 of those for refugees. It's a sharp spike from just 603 in 2022 and a mere 191 in 2021.

Bondi Says Prosecutors Will Seek Death Penalty For Suspected DC Guardsmen Attacker

U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi announced that federal prosecutors intend to pursue the death penalty against Rahmanullah Lakanwal, the 29-year-old Afghan national accused of shooting two National Guardsmen in Washington, D.C., the day before Thanksgiving.

Bondi made the remarks during an interview on Fox News, according to the New York Post.

“I will tell you early, we will do everything in our power to seek the death penalty against that monster who should not have been in our country,” Bondi said.

She also indicated that prosecutors would formally seek capital charges “if something happens” to the injured soldiers, who were in critical condition following emergency surgery, though 20-year-old Sarah Beckstrom has since died from her injuries.
