Black History Month: The county's first Black elected judge discusses disparities, history and the law

"The first known celebration of Black History Month happened more than 50 years ago. Since then, each February has been designated as a time to focus on the contributions of Americans of African descent. The truth, however, is that Black history is American history, and that history is a living, breathing thing. The Palm Beach Post recognizes that those contributions extend beyond what can be explored in 28 days, but in recognition of Black History Month, we're dedicating this space, this month to some whose work and lives continue to make a difference."

Bradley Harper appointed Circuit Judge by Gov Ron DeSantis

Bradley Harper is named to Circuit bench

Bradley Harper is a former Lake Worth High School graduate and a recipient of a scholarship from Dollars for Scholars.

Back in August 2016, we voted in Judge Harper as County Court Judge. Now he has been appointed to the Circuit Court by Governor Ron DeSantis.

Judge Harper traveled to Tallahassee to meet with the governor and said, "I'm grateful. God is good. He gives us grace even when we won't deserve it."

Governor Ron DeSantis will appoint new Circuit Court judges to replace retiring Judge Jeffrey Colbath and Judge Meenu Sasser who passed away last month.

And guess what? One of those being considered is our own Judge Bradley Harper, a former Lake Worth High School graduate.

Lake Worth High School graduate puts name in the ring to become a Justice of Florida's supreme court

In 2016, Bradley Harper became a Palm Beach County Court judge. He was endorsed by everyone. Now he has a chance to become a Justice in Florida. 59 judges have applied but one of the applicants must be from the 3rd Appellate District which is Miami based.

I had just finished voting at my precinct at Lakeside Um Church on 12 Avenue South Lake Worth when Bradley Harper and his wife, Chanelle pulled up to place a campaign sign.

Bradley, as most of you know, is a former Lake Worth High School graduate and a recipient of a scholarship from Dollars for Scholars.

Ettie Feistmann running for Palm Beach County Judge

As I have previously featured Bradley Harper, I want you to meet Ettie. I met Ettie Feistmann at Pinecrest Cemetery during the Memorial Day Services. She used to be the assistant city attorney here in Lake Worth while Romano was Mayor. She is running for County Judge Group 15.  Two of her opponents have withdrawn from the race so it is she and Bradley Harper running for this seat.

Bradley Harper, a sixth generation Palm Beach County native, attended the Lake Worth Alumni Foundation fundraiser on Saturday at Atlantis Country Club. It wasn't that many years ago that he was one of the top graduates at Lake Worth High School and received one of these scholarships. He says now, "It's time to give back."
