Kamala will get security protection afterall but not by the Feds

California taxpayers now will fund special protection detail for Kamala Harris

Decision made after President Trump cancels Biden's special extension for his VP

Former vice presidents get Secret Service protection for six months after leaving office, while ex-presidents get protection for life.

But before his term ended, then-President Biden signed an order to extend Harris' protection beyond six months to July 2026. Aides to Harris had asked Biden for the extension. Without it, her security detail would have ended last month.

Gov. Gavin Newsom, who would need to sign off on such CHP protection, would not confirm the arrangement. "Our office does not comment on security arrangements," said Izzy Gordon, a spokesperson for Newsom. "The safety of our public officials should never be subject to erratic, vindictive political impulses."

To speak to the comment made by Newsom's spokesperson, Trump's decision had to do with the law on the books...nothing vindictve about it--certainly not an erratic political decision.

Censoring Satire is Unconstitutional

A win for The Bee: State's attempt to censor satire ruled to be unconstitutional

California's deliberate scheme to censor satire, and prevent its politicians and others from being the butt of online jokes, has failed. A federal district court has ruled that two California laws censoring online political speech are unconstitutional.

"Making fun of politicians and criticizing the government is a core First Amendment right. That includes using new technology to create parody campaign ads or satirical memes," explained lawyer Johannes Widmalm-Delphonse of the ADF.

"Our job is hard enough when our jokes keep coming true, as if they were prophecies," said The Babylon Bee CEO Seth Dillon. "But it becomes significantly more difficult when self-serving politicians abuse their power to try to control public discourse and clamp down on comedy.

We're pleased the court recognized the First Amendment secures our right to tell jokes, even ones the government doesn't like."
