George Santos Announces Decision to Leave GOP, Run as an Independent

In a surprising turn of events, former Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.) took to the internet on Friday to declare his departure from the Republican Party.

Instead, he revealed his decision to run as an independent candidate in the upcoming New York House race this autumn.

In a momentous vote last December, Santos was ousted from the House after being hit with numerous federal fraud charges.

“I am officially suspending my petitioning in #NY01 to access the ballot as a Republican and will be filing to run as an independent. I will take my Ultra MAGA/Trump supporting values to the ballot in November as an Independent.” Santos said on X.

In his address, Santos made the announcement that he intends to run for office once again, going up against Rep. Nick LaLota (R-N.Y.).

In a recent post, Santos highlighted the disappointing performance in the House following the approval of a spending bill aimed at averting a government shutdown.

George Santos Indicted

Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.) was indicted Wednesday

on 13 federal charges for allegedly misleading donors, misrepresenting his finances to the public and government agencies, and engaging in wire fraud, money laundering, and theft of public funds.

I have to wonder why it took so long and how he got elected in the first place.

Santos pleaded not guilty Wednesday afternoon and was released on a $500,000 bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 30 before U.S. District Judge Joanna Seybert.

George Santos Target Of New FBI Investigation Into Alleged ‘GoFundMe Scheme’

Officials with federal law enforcement have reportedly begun an investigation of George Santos (R-NY) about his alleged involvement in a “GoFundMe scheme” which was created under the guise of helping the dog of a disabled U.S. Navy veteran.

Santos explained to POLITICO that a pair of agents with the FBI reached out to Richard Osthoff, the disabled Navy veteran related to the scheme, as a section of the investigation being carried out by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of New York.

Osthoff stated that Santos managed to secure $3,000 intended for use on a life-saving surgery that was needed for the man’s pit bull and then ran off with the funds. He reportedly handed over a series of text messages exchanges that he had with Santos to the agents.

This has renewed my faith in the FBI as an investigative body as it's amazing what they can uncover in a very short time when it's a Republican they are investigating.
