Ta-boo faces eviction, but owner intends to fight it

This was the place to go when I worked in Palm Beach for 25 years and it has served some of Palm Beach's elite since its opening before World War II, including residents Rod Stewart and James Patterson. Other celebrities to have dined there include Frank Sinatra and former President John F. Kennedy. Kevin McCarthy was there too! And I had a wedding dinner there!

And they had a great bar full of fun people at Happy Hour when I used to frequent Taboo.

But restaurant owner Franklyn de Marco told the Palm Beach Daily News that he and his attorneys are contesting the eviction by the building's owner.

"Based on our understanding, this eviction isn't valid," de Marco told the newspaper.

A representative for the building's owner told the newspaper that Ta-boo's lease expired at the end of April 2022 and the rent hasn't been paid since.

Now of course keeping as many as a couple of million people from losing their apartments and homes is a worthy goal. The first moratorium was imposed by Trump, and when that lapsed, the CDC issued a new ban and extended it three times.

But then the Supreme Court said the CDC had exceeded its legal authority. But the court set a one-month deadline so Congress would have time to fix the problem. The Hill did nothing, the moratorium expired, and then Biden did his 180.

The other day, Biden gave out gold medals to Capitol police for defending our "democracy," he said. The Constitution only matters to liberals when it benefits their political agendas. And what about them telling the supreme Court to "stuff it?"

Judge gives DOJ a 9am deadline

U.S. District Judge Dabney Friedrich gave the Department of Justice a 9 a.m. ET deadline on Friday to respond to an emergency legal challenge filed by the Alabama Association of Realtors late Wednesday, Reuters reports.

The emergency motion accuses the CDC of issuing the new ban on evictions "for nakedly political reasons — to ease the political pressure, shift the blame to the courts for ending the moratorium, and use litigation delays to achieve a policy objective."

A federal court on Friday ruled that the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) overstepped its authority by halting evictions during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Commissioner wants to Halt Evictions in Lake Worth--

Renters who are behind on payments are breathing a sigh of relief this month as the CDC extended their eviction moratorium until the end of July.

But one Lake Worth Commissioner in our poor city wants to help tenants who still won't/don't/can't pay their rent.

Commissioner Kimberly Stokes wants to take money from Biden's American Rescue Plan and pay for those people who can't/don't/won't pay their rent and get them legal advice if facing eviction. While the intent of the CDC moratorium was to prevent the spread of Covid, there is no requirement in the order that the income loss be due to Covid. State laws may differ.

What about the property owners, the Lessors? What about their rights? They will still have to go through an eviction process that could be lengthy, costly and tied up in the courts.
