Drug deal gone wrong leads to deadly shooting in Palm Beach County
A drug deal for marijuana and vape cartridges took a deadly turn after two men allegedly tried to rob a suspected drug dealer who is now accused of homicide. On Oct. 11 the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office (PBSO) responded to JFK Medical Center in Atlantis after a man showed up at the hospital with a gunshot wound to the right leg that struck a femoral artery, an arrest affidavit from the sheriff's office says.
The report says the victim was taken to the Delray Medical Center due to the severity of his injuries.
The arrest affidavit says the investigation led to PBSO detectives speaking with the victim's mother who said she had not spoken to her son, so they used the Find My iPhone application to track the victim down. The report says the mom and her daughters found the victim's iPhone near Lantana Road and South Congress Avenue. The affidavit goes on to say when the phone was found it had a "blood-like substance" on it which alarmed her.
The arrest affidavit says through a sweep of the iPhone detectives observed drug transaction text messages where the victim was going to buy $2,500 worth of drugs. The affidavit says the agreement was for one pound of marijuana and vape cartridges.
On Oct. 13 at 4:16 a.m. the victim was pronounced dead at Delray Medical Center.
