Let's drain the swamp of Lois Frankel

When Donald Trump says he wants to "drain the swamp," he means people like Lois Frankel--a phony, two-faced typical politician that no one can trust.

"She spent an hour marching with anti-Trump protesters in downtown West Palm Beach, then crossed the Intracoastal Waterway to Palm Beach, where she mingled with Trump at the annual Red Cross Charity ball at Mar-a-Lago."

I guess that's what it means by keeping your enemies close--attending and paying for admittance to the most prestigious money-raising charity ball in Palm Beach with probably taxpayer money held at the home of Donald Trump? Can it get any more disgusting than that?

Obama sending IRS after Conservatives that will affect the churches

Comment Up

Considering the Obama Administration’s well-documented willingness to use the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) as a political weapon to intimidate, silence and bankrupt organizations and individuals who oppose the president, a proposed IRS rule to force charities, churches and nonprofits to report the Social Security numbers of donors to the IRS could dry up donations and run them out of business.

Glenn Beck's Non Profit gives $720,000 to Tornado relief

Comment Up

Emotions ran high on Saturday when eight Cleveland County deputies received checks from Joe Kerry, the head of Glenn Beck’s nonprofit organization Mercury One.

Five of those deputies’ homes were completely destroyed during the May tornadoes while the other three deputies’ homes sustained damage. As Kerry handed each of them their check and shook each of their hands, he made a decision.

Romneys give the most to Charity

Comment Up

Mistrust of the mass media has hit a high at 60% according to a recent Gallup poll and it's no wonder.

Something that the liberal left wing media will not tell you is that Romney and his wife Ann gave 29.4 percent of their income to charity in 2011, donating $4,020,772 out of the $13,696,951 they took in.

Obama and first lady Michelle Obama gave 21.8 percent of their income to charitable organizations last year, donating $172,130 out of the $789,674 they made.

Biden and his wife, Jill, gave 1.5 percent of their income away in 2011, with charitable donations totaling $5,540 out of $379,035.

People who Walk the Walk

Comment Up
Robert Waples and Col. Allen West featured
with homeowner and friends

Last month, Robert Waples and his not-for-profit, Neighbors Helping Neighbors, along with many volunteers did what they always do--helping a needy neighbor in a community. On this day they ventured out of Lake Worth to patch up and paint and did what it took to repair a house in West Palm Beach (owner seated in wheel chair).

Not only at times does Rep. Allen West don snorkel and fins cleaning up ocean reefs in his District 22, on this day he wore his handyman clothes working for someone less fortunate. This was not done for a photo op; the press did not know about it. West appeared, rolled up his sleeves and got to work painting and repairing and lending a hand.

So this Thanksgiving we want to give a special thank you to all the community volunteers for caring so much and constantly giving back. These are special people who walk the walk never expecting a word of thanks.

Mafia with a Heart

Comment Up

Even Japan's infamous cold blooded criminals who would blow you away in a heartbeat, have heart. Mafia groups are helping out with the relief efforts and showing compassion and civic duty.

The day after the earthquake the Inagawa-kai (the third largest organized crime group in Japan which was founded in 1948) sent twenty-five four-ton trucks filled with paper diapers, instant ramen, batteries, flashlights, drinks, and the essentials of daily life to the Tohoku region.

The Homeless

The Palm Beach County Commission had a presentation yesterday morning by the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness. Mr. Mangano serves as Executive Director of the Council, appointed by George W. Bush in 2002. He was here basically to commend Palm Beach County and its ten year Plan to eliminate homelessness in Palm Beach County.

The County is being pro-active to solve our ever growing problem and taking the burden off the faith based entities out there that have attempted to tackle the problem, along with some charities and groups, almost virtually alone. We all know that the problem is growing here in our city, a city that can’t take care of itself, let alone another costly problem that can’t get cured.

There were several Lake Worth residents in attendance yesterday and Tricia Fitzpatrick spoke on this issue. I spotted Matt Constantine, former CRA Board member who, I believe, is with Adopt a Family.

Mr. Mangano’s focus is what The Christian Science Monitor called a “business-school approach to the problem” and Commissioner Koons says that PB County is committed to work and partner with the Council to end the problem of homelessness.

Commission Meeting of Jan 6, 2009

Breaking my New Year’s Resolution of not staying late at Commission meetings, I left at 11:50pm. So much for resolutions. I didn’t stay long enough last night to see if Commissioner Retha Lowe fulfilled her threat to leave the dais at Midnight. She should leave permanently, but that is another story or past stories.

Tom Ramiccio managed to stack the chamber once again last night on the Gulfstream Hotel issue, having sent out e-mails to various people. Some of his friends did not stay that late, so their comments were not read into the record. Rachael Bach, when asked how the Historical Preservation Board voted, replied that their vote was “unanimous.” It wasn’t. I asked the owner of the hotel, after the Commission voted to table it, why he did not just open the hotel. His answer, “I can’t…the appeal is holding it up.” I then asked him, “It’s been holding you up since the day you bought it?” “Yes,” was his reply. I guess he has P&Z believing that too, a Political Board that seems to grant him his every wish. Let’s get the hotel opened but not break our own laws/ordinances to allow the owner to do whatever he wants. The City should not be in bed with developers. Charles Celi did a great job on his appeal.

Choosing the Mercer Group was a good decision to find a new City Manager. Colin Baenziger, a company that was turned down this time, gave us Paul Boyer and Bob Baldwin. The Mercer Group's presentation was well made and hopefully this company will consider some of our home-grown qualified people for this position.

Our Museum will stay opened for another 9 months until we find money to support it. That was another good decision. Of course our Mayor wants us to spend millions building a new library and was hesitant when he voted Yes.

The red-light cameras were defeated. Good decision. The Mayor voted for them, the only dissenting vote. They will not generate that much revenue for the City as we are on a sliding scale down…the more violations, the less money we get. We would have been known as speed trap city. Writing an Ordinance forbidding red-light cameras in the City of Lake Worth was definitely the way to go. Mr. Karns said he thought that our ordinance would take precedence over a PB County ordinance if it decided to put in red-light cameras on County roads.

We have a billboard ordinance too but the City did not pay attention to that and allowed billboards near I-95. For the amount of money they generate over 20 years it was another awful decision. Maybe the red-light camera people will threaten suit as well and our City attorney will capitulate like he did with the billboards. That was another Clemens and Lowe decision. She should step down. Do I sound like a broken record?

The Palm Beach County Water deal was an interesting segment, to say the least. Brian Shields from Palm Beach County was there and he told us that we are now $1 million dollars into the project when just 30 days ago we had only received an invoice for $57,000. Brian must have hurried like heck to do all that work so that it would make our decision to stop the County water deal very difficult. He never said we owed $1 million. He said that the County had spent it. The Commission, the day after the election, should have immediately contacted PB County Commissioners and set up appointments. They didn’t and it’s now 48 days later. It only took 6 days to create the earth. We now have a big problem because of their inaction. The mayor said that West Palm Beach had a “terrible history” and that we were “treading on dangerous waters” even considering using their interconnect for free, just paying for the cost of the water. Spending $21 million dollars is a better deal than NOTHING Mayor? What is really going on with the Mayor? The Assistant city administrator for West Palm Beach, Eduardo Balbis, spoke briefly telling us that they had made major capital improvements to their water system and that the quality of water is better now than in the history of the city.

Allowing the Boynton Beach Community Church to hold a special event at Bryant Park was voted in with no discussion. The Church wants to hold an Awareness of Hunger in Palm Beach County. Past events, held in another location, attracted only 300 people. This event is estimated to attract between 500 and 600 people. Is there anyone out here who does not know that there is a homeless problem? Is anyone unaware? Anyone? These events should be handled by charities and faith based groups holding them anywhere but public property. This event will be on March 15th. That month we have the Reggae Fest and Pride Fest.

2 Stars

The Rev. Ronald Brummitt of the Miami Rescue Mission, while reaching out to the least, the last and the lost, makes $173, 659.00 a year for his charitable services and his wife, Marilyn makes $54,827.00. Not a bad haul for doing God’s work and giving back to those poor lost souls. The Rev. Brummitt is listed as the Executive Director. There are two higher positions in that organization, that of President and Senior V.P./COO.

I would do a complete background check of this Group that is only given 2 stars before committing any property that is owned by the City. 2 stars means the charity meets or nearly meets industry standards but underperforms most charities in its Cause. In other words, it's not up to snuff...needs improvement.

God helps those who help themselves. In this case, the Rev. has done well. I would bet that Steven Spielberg wished he had done a little checking before he had invested millions with Bernie Madoff.
