After settling antisemitism claims, Columbia now faces lawsuit from Palestinian students

A new lawsuit accuses the university of biased disciplinary proceedings, surveillance of pro-Palestinian activists and creating a hostile environment after Oct. 7.

Filed in New York State Supreme Court, the complaint accuses the university of encouraging the mistreatment of Palestinian students by holding “unfair and biased disciplinary hearings” and creating a “hostile and unsafe environment” following Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack on Israel that sparked university-wide protests and tensions on campus

The lawsuit alleges that the university “actively participated in and amplified the racially, ethnically, and politically motivated targeting of Palestinian students, staff, and faculty.”

The case is the latest in a string of legal battles born out of Columbia’s handling of campus protests.

In July 2025, the Ivy League university on New York’s Upper West Side agreed to pay $21 million to settle charges by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission that alleged a hostile work environment for Jewish employees as a part of its federal resolution agreement with the Trump Administration.

In his smug, soft-spoken interview with Ezra Klein, Mahmoud Khalil said the quiet part out loud. Asked about the October 7 Hamas massacre—where terrorists slaughtered over 1,200 Israelis in their homes, burned babies alive, raped women, and kidnapped grandmothers—Khalil replied, “Unfortunately, we couldn’t avoid such a moment.”

That wasn’t a slip. That was a defense. He called it a “desperate attempt” to show the world that Palestinians “are part of the equation.” An equation? Is that what we’re calling mass rape and execution now?

Let’s break this down in terms so clear even Columbia’s sociology department might understand: Hamas is a terrorist group. They exist for one purpose—to wipe Israel off the map. They kill Jews for sport.

They murder Americans when they get the chance. Their ideology is genocidal, their tactics are barbaric, and their goal is not peace, but extermination. That Khalil can look at that and see a “desperate message” says everything you need to know about the rot inside our institutions—and the people Democrats are choosing to defend.

There is rot in the Democrat party that continues to ignore the severity of the anti-American ideology from people such as Mahmoud Khalil.

Revocation of Chinese students visas

The Trump administration’s pledge that it will begin to “aggressively” revoke visas of Chinese students was made after years of concern over the Chinese regime’s efforts to infiltrate U.S. academia.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced on May 29 that the United States will begin revoking Chinese student visas, specifically targeting those with ties to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) or studying in critical fields. It will also revise visa criteria and heighten scrutiny for future visa applications.

State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce on Thursday said the government is enhancing scrutiny of all Chinese visa holders in the United States. She declined to detail specific criteria the department will use in assessing applications.

A total of 277,398 students from China were enrolled U.S. entities in the 2023–24 academic year, according to a collaborative report from the State Department and the Institute of International Education.

The FBI warned in a 2019 bulletin that the CCP exploits the openness of the U.S. academic environment to conduct economic espionage to advance its own scientific, economic, and military goals. While most Chinese students and researchers are in the United States for legitimate academic reasons, the FBI said, the CCP can use them as “non-traditional collectors of intellectual property.”

The Department of Homeland Security announced the action Thursday

"It is a privilege, not a right, for universities to enroll foreign students and benefit from their higher tuition payments to help pad their multibillion-dollar endowments.

Harvard had plenty of opportunity to do the right thing. It refused. They have lost their Student and Exchange Visitor Program certification as a result of their failure to adhere to the law. Let this serve as a warning to all universities and academic institutions across the country."

The report said about a quarter of Harvard's students are foreigners, and besides the high fees they pay, they help the school "gain international influence."

The report noted a government task force concluded Harvard has failed to confront pervasive race discrimination and anti-Semitic harassment.
