Criminal knocks store clerk unconscious

An investigation revealed that a suspect entered the store along with two other men and belligerently accused the victim of "staring at him," officials said. The victim told the suspect to get his items and leave, officials said. As you might guess, the suspect apparently didn't take too kindly to the directive. Authorities said the victim and suspect continued to "loudly" exchange words, after which the suspect "threw a full, unopened, plastic 2-liter [bottle] of Orange Crush at the victim's head." The victim fell unconscious and first responders found the adult male victim "bleeding profusely" above his right eye — an injury that required 10 stitches and apparently resulted in a concussion. Officials said the suspect and his friends left the store. They are still looking for him.

Feds will deny, but ‘you decide who you want to believe’

A tough-on-crime Florida sheriff blasted congressional lawmakers for what he said were lax immigration policies after 21 illegal immigrants were among 228 people arrested in a human-trafficking bust.

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said the eight-day, multi-agency operation titled "Operation March Sadness 2024" included the arrests of military service members, teachers, coaches and medical professionals.

The operation began on Feb. 22.

Those accused of being in the United States illegally were from Chile, Cuba, Guatemala, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela, the sheriff's office said.

California Man Scott Wooden, 60, was arrested during one of Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd’s undercover human trafficking stings dubbed “Operation Traffic Stop.”

Operation Traffic Stop was a 7-day human trafficking operation headed by The Polk County Sheriff’s Office Vice Squad and staffed with multiple Law Enforcement agencies, both local and state, and several social services agencies.

Two trafficking victims and another five possible victims were identified in the operation dubbed “Fall Haul 2.” Deputies said that out of the 160 arrested, 26 claimed to be married, 15 were from other states including New York and California, 16 were living in Polk County, and seven are suspected of being illegal immigrants.

Drugs like cocaine, marijuana, and heroin were seized during the operation. The age of those arrested ranged from 19 to 64 years old, and the criminal histories of all arrested included 419 previous felonies and 619 previous misdemeanors, involving charges for kidnapping, robbery, and sex offenses.

Polk County detectives have charged those arrested with a total of 52 felonies and 216 misdemeanors.
