Deadly pedestrian crash shuts down I-95 North for hours in Lake Worth Beach

LAKE WORTH BEACH, Fla. — A deadly crash involving a pedestrian shut down all lanes of I-95 North in Lake Worth Beach early Friday morning.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the crash happened just after 3 a.m. just before the 10th Avenue North exit. Investigators say a pedestrian was walking in the outside center lane when she was struck by a vehicle.

The driver continued northbound on I-95 after hitting the pedestrian. The victim was then run over by additional vehicles, according to FHP.

A wildly lucky traffic incident was caught on a dashcam, as a car engaged in a high-speed drag race on a major highway in Lake Worth Beach, Florida, skidded across multiple lanes, but did not collide with any other cars.

Deadly Crash on I-95 at 6th Avenue South

I-95 northbound reopens in Lake Worth Beach following deadly crash

This happened at 6th Avenue South this morning.

Every time I drive on I-95, thoughts cross my mind if it will be the last time I see the light of day. It is a scary experience at times.

The wreck happened just before 4:30 a.m. on I-95 near 6th Avenue South.

All northbound lanes were shut down for hours for about two miles between 6th Avenue South and Lantana Road, but eventually reopened just before 7:15 a.m.

Despite that, backups still extend several miles south to Gateway Boulevard in Boynton Beach.

Huge traffic backup on I-95 yesterday

Diesel fuel causes I-95 traffic backup

"LAKE WORTH BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — Traffic trouble on I-95, Friday afternoon, when a crash shut down several lanes of northbound traffic in Lake Worth Beach.

The crash involved a tractor-trailer and two other vehicles near the 6th Avenue S. exit.

What made matters worse was that the tractor-trailer spilled 50 gallons of diesel fuel.

After 4 p.m., traffic was moving slowly through the two left lanes. Three lanes were still closed.

Minor injuries were reported in the crash."

Truck hits Bridge in Lake Worth (Beach)


"Palm Beach County Fire Rescue says the truck crashed into the bridge at 12th Ave South and the I-95 overpass. The road underneath the overpass is closed.

According to Lake Worth Beach city officials, the two western lanes of I-95 Southbound between 6th Ave S and Lantana Road will be closed as well." [WTVX]

Crash at 6th Avenue and I-95 last night

[WPTV] "All I-95 northbound lanes were shut down in Lake Worth Tuesday evening following a single-vehicle crash.

The crash happened at 5:34 p.m. near the 6th Avenue South exit.

According to the Palm Beach County Fire Rescue, one person, an adult male, was transported to a trauma hospital by helicopter.

The accident caused heavy traffic delays while crews worked the scene.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash."

I95 Northbound from Lantana Rd to 10th Ave N is closed due to construction damage

Due to construction damage to the I95 overpass at 10th Ave N the I95 Northbound is closed between Lantana Road and 10th Ave North. Northbound traffic is being diverted at Lantana Rd and 6th Ave South which will increase traffic on local roads travelling North. Residents wishing to travel northbound at this time should avoid the Lantana Road and 6th Ave S northbound entrances to the I95. Southbound travel is unaffected. Department of Transport engineers are en route to assess damage.

No reopening time is available at this moment. Monitor local media for further updates.

Restrictions on I-95 at 10th Avenue North postponed

Please be advised that the I-95 southbound diversion scheduled at 10th Avenue North for this Wednesday night, Aug. 24 and Thursday night, Aug. 25 (please see below) has been postponed and will not occur as planned.

This activity is weather-dependent and will be rescheduled based on developments with Tropical Storm activity.

New dates will be announced in this Friday’s press release.

10th Avenue North
Restrictions: I-95 southbound diversion: I-95 southbound traffic will be diverted at 10th Avenue North to allow for bridge beam setting over I-95, nightly, 11 p.m. until 5 a.m., Wednesday night, Aug. 24 and Thursday night, Aug. 25. FHP will divert I-95 southbound traffic to the southbound exit ramp at 10th Avenue North. Motorists will then be routed back to I-95 southbound via the southbound I-95 entrance ramp from 10th Avenue North. Advanced Notice: I-95 northbound traffic will be diverted at 10th Avenue North to allow for bridge beam setting over I-95, nightly, 11 p.m. until 5 a.m., Sunday night, Aug. 28 and Monday night, Aug. 29. FHP will divert I-95 northbound traffic to the northbound exit ramp at 10th Avenue North. Motorists will then be routed back to I-95 northbound via the northbound I-95 entrance ramp from 10th Avenue North.

I-95 Traffic at 10th Avenue North to be diverted

I -95 northbound traffic will be diverted at 10th Avenue North nightly, 11 p.m. until 5 a.m., Sunday, Aug. 21 through Thursday, Aug. 25 to allow for bridge beam placement over I-95.

This $11.2 million, 0.579-mile project began construction on Monday, Nov. 2, and is expected to be completed in summer 2017, weather permitting. Work is being performed by Community Asphalt Corp, with Cardno administering the construction contract for FDOT.

Maintenance of Traffic I-95 northbound traffic will be diverted at 10th Avenue North to allow for bridge beam setting over I-95, nightly, 11 p.m. until 5a.m., Sunday, Aug. 21 through Thursday, Aug. 25 FHP will divert I- 95 northbound traffic to the northbound exit ramp at 10th Avenue North. Motorists will then be routed back to I-95 northbound via the northbound I-95 entrance ramp from 10th Avenue North.

I-95 Skid Hazard Overlay from north of 6th Avenue South to Lake Worth Road Work on this 0.5-mile project began Friday, March 14, 2014, in the City of Lake Worth.

Work consists of installing a high friction epoxy overlay and thermoplastic pavement markings to the bridge deck from just north of 6th Avenue South to Lake Worth Road. The project costs an estimated $1.8 million. The work is being performed by Ram Construction Services and is expected to be completed late summer 2014.

I-95 northbound will have three inside lanes closed, from 6th Avenue South to 10th Avenue North, 9 p.m. until 6 a.m., Sunday night through Thursday morning, through spring 2014.
