NYC Mayor Mamdani marks Independence Day by defending illegal immigrants as ICE arrests convicted criminals

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani chose the Fourth of July to deliver an Independence Day address focused not on the nation's founding or the men and women who defend it, but on the plight of illegal immigrants facing enforcement by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The speech landed just days after the Department of Homeland Security published a detailed press release listing ICE arrests of illegal aliens convicted of child sex offenses, manslaughter, drug trafficking, and other serious crimes.

The contrast could hardly be sharper. While Mamdani described ICE agents as a menace to neighborhoods, DHS was naming the people those agents had just pulled off American streets, and the crimes that put them there.

In his address, as Breitbart reported, Mamdani cast immigration enforcement in stark terms, describing agents carrying out federal law as an occupying force:

• "We see masked agents terrorizing our streets, eating food cooked by our undocumented neighbors before spiriting them away in unmarked vans."
• He went further, framing resistance to ICE operations as an expression of patriotism: "We see America each time neighbors link arms with neighbors without asking how long they have lived here or what papers they have as ICE invades our neighborhood."
• And he characterized supporters of immigration enforcement as motivated by bigotry: "America, they will tell you, belongs only to those with the right accent or the right shade of skin. The rest of us, they insist, should be grateful for merely being allowed to visit. How small they are, how weak, how unoriginal."

DHS Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis offered a pointed rebuttal to the kind of framing Mamdani employed. Her statement addressed the arrests directly:

"Yesterday, ICE arrested murderers, pedophiles, sexual predators, drug traffickers, and other criminal illegal aliens convicted of heinous crimes. Thanks to President Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill, ICE is supercharged with 12,000 new law enforcement officers to remove the worst of the worst from American communities.

Nearly 70 percent of ICE arrests are of illegal aliens charged or convicted of a crime in the U.S."

"I need your help," said Thaïs d'Escufon in a video posted Tuesday on X, as she faces a possible six-month prison sentence and $3,500 fine.

"Tomorrow I may be sentenced to unsuspended prison for daring to say on French TV that the main danger to women in France comes from black African and Arab immigrant men, even though I was defending a woman who was herself raped by a Central African man subject to an OQTF order in the courtyard of her Paris apartment building.

"Having myself survived an attempted rape by a Tunisian migrant four years ago, I could not remain silent. But for having spoken these words on television set, the prosecutor has sought a prison sentence against me."

D'Escufon says the prosecutor "dismissed our two stories as insignificant incidents which did not excuse my hate speech. Yet all I did was describe a reality that most French people are afraid to speak about precisely because the justice system is capable of convicting them for describing what they see with their own eyes and experience firsthand.

His wife, Najmo Ahmed, already pleaded guilty to money laundering last year. She's scheduled for sentencing this month. Najmo Ahmed, operated the grocer and laundered over $1.3 million of the illicit funds through personal bank accounts. She pleaded guilty to money laundering charges and was scheduled to face sentencing.

New York's new mayor went on national television Thursday to explain why hunting down child predators offends his sense of humanity.

ICE just pulled 206 people with rape and manslaughter convictions off New York streets – and Zohran Mamdani called the agents doing it cruel. Now a democratic socialist born in Uganda is telling you that removing gang members from your neighborhood isn't public safety.

Thursday on MSNBC, Mayor Mamdani told host Jen Psaki exactly where he stands on federal agents removing violent criminals from New York neighborhoods. "I view ICE actions to be cruel and inhumane," Mamdani said. He didn't stop there.

"These are not actions that serve any interest of public safety," he added – about an agency that just pulled 206 people with manslaughter and rape convictions off New York streets. Mamdani has been pushing this line since Day One.

He signed an executive order in February strengthening New York's sanctuary city protections – blocking ICE from entering schools or city property without a judicial warrant.

Between October 2022 and February 2025, sanctuary policies across the country resulted in the release of more than 26,000 criminal aliens that ICE was actively trying to deport.

Nilufar Yasmin was a mother of two from Bangladesh. This is a real human tragedy with a grieving family at its center.

Officials report Joachim entered the country in 2022 and was later granted Temporary Protected Status for Haitians. TPS is a program meant to protect certain foreign nationals from return to dangerous conditions in their home countries.

after publicly backing a 22-year-old man who allegedly charged at NYPD officers with a large kitchen knife

— and suggesting the man needs therapy, not a courtroom.

Jabez Chakraborty was shot by officers in Queens after the encounter, which began when his own family requested an involuntary removal. That request, by its nature, requires both police and EMS to respond. Officers arrived because the family called for help. And when Chakraborty allegedly came at them with a blade, they did what officers are trained to do.

None of that stopped Mamdani from visiting Chakraborty's hospital room, meeting with his family, and holding a news conference where he framed the incident not as a law enforcement matter — but as a mental health tragedy in which the real failure was the system's reliance on police.

At his news conference, Mamdani steered the conversation away from the man who allegedly lunged at officers with a kitchen knife and toward the suffering of the suspect's family.

"We are talking about a family that is enduring the kind of pain that no family should and an individual that has lived with schizophrenia for many years." He then laid out a broader vision — one that should alarm every New Yorker who dials 911 expecting a police officer to show up:

"A person experiencing a mental health episode does not always have to be served first or exclusively by a police officer. It is important for us to have all of the options available."

In isolation, that sounds reasonable. In practice, it has produced a mayor who:

• Signaled the disbanding of the NYPD's protest unit
• Proposed replacing cops with social workers and "transit ambassadors" on certain 911 calls
• Called for higher taxes on the top 1%
• Appointed an ex-con as NYC corrections commissioner

And then he moves into Gracie Mansion with all the safety anyone could ever imagine.

Here’s what Walz carefully avoided mentioning: while state prisons might follow the rules, county jails across Minnesota are a different story entirely.

Government data obtained by the Center for Immigration Studies reveals that local jails routinely refuse to honor ICE detainers, releasing illegal aliens back onto the streets rather than transferring them to federal custody.

Minnesota, the data finds, is among the top 10 states releasing illegal aliens from jail rather than turning them over to ICE agents.

Harmeet Dhillon, the Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights at the Department of Justice, has announced that they plan to charge disgraced former CNN anchor Don Lemon under the Ku Klux Klan Act, a Reconstruction-era law enacted to combat Democrat terrorist activities by groups like their KKK.

The impending charges stem from Lemon’s involvement when a group of anti-ICE terrorists stormed a church in Minneapolis, disrupting a religious service and intimidating worshippers, on Sunday.

The Ku Klux Klan Act, formally known as the Enforcement Act of 1871, prohibits conspiracies to threaten, injure, or intimidate individuals to prevent them from exercising their constitutional rights, including the free exercise of religion.

According to reports, Lemon not only accompanied the protesters but had prior knowledge of their plans to target the church, which was hosting a service at the time. Some have even said he was the one who incited the protesters to target the church.

Before the incident, Lemon is seen in his team’s own footage discussing the “secret operation” with activists, confirming they had the church’s address, and even instructing his staff not to reveal the location. GOP Candidate Stabbed by Anti-ICE Mob

Leftwing protesters attacked and allegedly stabbed pardoned Jan. 6 protester and Florida Senate candidate Jake Lang Saturday after his “March Against Fraud” was met with violent pushback in Minneapolis.

Lang was repeatedly bashed on the back of the head by several protesters who swung fists, flags, and objects as he fled the chaotic scene.

Photos showed a bloodied Lang, 29, bleeding from the back of the head with snow in his hair, as one X user claimed he’d been “beaten” following the clash on the steps of City Hall.

As Lang attempted to get away from the scene in a red sedan, video posted to X showed counter protesters ripping open the door of the car — throwing kicks and attempting to pull him back out onto the street.

Lang posted on X that he was stabbed by “a crazie white commie leftist rioter” and wrote that the tactical vest he was wearing “blocked it.”
