According to the FBI’s sworn complaint, that was the plan of 18-year-old Sheikhdoon Abdullahi Mohamud, an American citizen born to two Somalians living in America's largest Somali enclave. It is unclear at this point if he ever attended a Learing Center.
He wanted to run off to Somalia and fight for al-Shabab and, ultimately, ISIS. He couldn’t afford the trip, so he picked the mall instead. When an informant asked if he was serious, he answered “yes I am 100% sure,” and said he’d kill non-Muslims, maybe 30 to 60 of them. His reason, according to prosecutors: the mall is “owned by Jewish,” so if he killed even 30 people, nobody would go there anymore.
On Tuesday he paid $600 to an undercover agent posing as an ISIS member for an AK-47 and 200 rounds, and agents arrested him in a Richfield park on the spot [Bob Frantz-Strictly Speaking]
