Trump administration plans offshore oil lease expansion by 2026

The Trump administration is setting its sights on a bold energy push, aiming to auction new offshore oil drilling leases along untouched U.S. coastal regions by 2026.

As reported by Just the News, the Department of the Interior has drafted plans to open federal waters off New England, the Carolinas, and California to oil and gas exploration. These areas, long shielded from drilling, stand in contrast to active operations in the Gulf of Mexico and parts of Alaska.

Currently, the Atlantic coast hosts no active oil leases, and California hasn’t seen a new offshore lease since 1984. This proposal marks a significant shift, building on the recent reopening of 1.56 million acres in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge’s Coastal Plain for leasing, undoing Biden-era limits.

Critics might argue this prioritizes industry over ecology, but the counterpoint is clear: energy security and job creation can’t be ignored in a world of volatile global markets.

Federal Court Hands Biden a Surprise Loss – Then the Judge Hands Joe a Humiliating Lecture

Joe Biden has openly voiced his goals of eliminating fossil fuels and his administrative actions to date have left the U.S. energy world reeling. He continued his assault on America’s energy independence in recent actions by weaponizing wildlife protection laws.

Biden’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management’s (BOEM) imposed last-minute restrictions on an upcoming offshore oil and gas lease sale that spans millions of acres across the Gulf of Mexico. The lease was set to open next week before Biden’s BOEM shut it down.

The action didn’t sit well with a federal judge who struck down the administrative action. Judge James Cain of the Western District of Louisiana granted a preliminary injunction. He ruled that the federal government must proceed with the lease sale by Sept. 30 under its original conditions.

Then, it was removed from the blacklist by President Joe Biden's administration in June 2021.Joe has reversed most of Trump's policies.

Reuters calculated that CNOOC's assets in the US, UK, and Canada collectively produce around 220,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.

Joe Biden, who on the campaign trail called for an end to drilling on federal lands, has been looking for ways to temporarily increase U.S. energy production to help drive down the price of gas. He should stop screwing around with our Strategic Reserves.
