America Is Importing More Venezuelan Oil While Production Stays Flat

Trump Freed Venezuela’s Oil From Maduro and Washington’s Own Paperwork Is Strangling It

American forces dragged Nicolás Maduro out of Venezuela back in January and handed Trump the world's largest oil reserves.

Eight months later those same oil fields are still producing barely more than they did under the dictator. One piece of leftover paperwork in Washington is deciding how much cheaper your gas gets from here.

Venezuela sits on more proven oil reserves than any country on Earth. Trump ended Maduro's rule in January and promised those barrels would flow to American refineries instead of funding a dictator's drug routes. They are flowing.

U.S. imports of Venezuelan crude climbed from 200,000 barrels a day in January to 630,000 barrels a day by June, according to Energy Information Administration data.

That sounds like a flood. It is not.

Saudi Oil Pipeline attacked

Trump says Iran likely responsible for attack that shut vital Saudi oil pipeline

US President Donald Trump said Iran was “probably” behind the attack launched from Iraq that shut a vital oil pipeline in Saudi Arabia.

The East-West Pipeline was attacked by several drones coming from Iraq on Thursday, the Saudi foreign ministry said Friday, resulting in injuries and some damage. The energy ministry added that the pipeline had been shut down as a precautionary measure.

The news comes amid turmoil in energy markets and major disruption in shipping with no end in sight to the Iran war and as Tehran’s allies in Yemen, the Houthis, seized a key island and a port in the Red Sea.

Trump pointed the finger at Iran as most likely being behind the attack when asked about the incident by a reporter during a visit to Ireland on Saturday.

A source told CNN that the Saudi Crown Prince had spoken twice with Trump on Thursday and urged him to strike the Houthis as the Iran-backed group advances towards the Red Sea, but Trump declined.

Delcy Rodriguez and Venezuelan Oil Deal

Ted Cruz Says 'Significant Concerns' Over Venezuela Oil Deal

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, is raising "significant concerns" about the Trump administration's massive new Venezuela oil agreement, warning that it should not legitimize acting President Delcy Rodríguez or delay free elections in the country.

Speaking on his latest "Verdict with Ted Cruz" podcast, Cruz said the agreement is a "big deal" and that giving U.S. interests access to an estimated 65 billion barrels of Venezuelan oil could ultimately benefit American jobs, the economy, and consumers. Venezuela has the world's largest proven oil reserves.

But Cruz said the still-opaque arrangement also raises serious political and economic questions.

"This is a deal that was cut with Delcy Rodríguez, who is the interim president of Venezuela," Cruz said. "She was Nicolas Maduro's vice president. She is a communist. She is a Marxist. She has a long history of being viciously anti-American."

"I love the Inflation"

Democrats strip Trump's inflation remarks from context as president reveals Strait of Hormuz operation

President Trump told reporters in the Oval Office on Wednesday that he "loves the inflation", and within hours, Democratic leaders had clipped the quote, stripped it of context, and blasted it across social media.

What they left out was everything that followed the word "inflation": a detailed account of a military operation against Iranian oil shipments, a claim that more than 100 million barrels of oil had been pushed through the Strait of Hormuz, and a prediction that prices would collapse once the conflict ends.

The full exchange, as CBS News reported, began when a reporter asked Trump whether he was concerned that the Consumer Price Index had risen to an annual rate of 4.2%, up from 3.8% the prior month and the highest reading since April 2023.

Trump's answer was not a celebration of grocery prices. It was a pivot to what he described as a previously undisclosed military campaign against Iran's oil infrastructure and shipping capacity, one he said explained why oil sat at $85 a barrel and why he expected prices to fall sharply once the operation concluded.

What Trump actually said--The president's full remarks in the Oval Office went well beyond the four-word clip Democrats circulated. Trump told the reporter:
"The numbers were great. You know what I really love? I love the inflation. You know why? Because as soon as this war is over. You know, I can say it now, something you didn't know. Did you know we've been taking out millions of barrels of oil? Nobody knows it. You know who doesn't know about it? Iran, until right now. We took out the other night, 22 ships. Late at night, with no lights. Because they don't have any radar because we blasted the crap out of it. We took out. That's why oil's $85 a barrel."

Oil Companies holding off on new wells

Why US Oil Companies Are Holding Off on Drilling New Wells

‘Oil companies are hesitant to make such big investments over what may be a temporary price spike,’ economist Paul Mueller said.

The war in Iran, which continues to trap about one-fifth of the world’s oil supply in the Persian Gulf, is seen by many as a golden opportunity for American oil companies to expand their position as the world’s leading energy producers.

“We’re seeing a combination of trying to reopen the Strait [of Hormuz] while simultaneously recognizing that there are going to be alternative routes to get oil and gas to market, including expanding production in new places and expanding production in the United States,” Caleb Jasso, policy expert at the Institute for Energy Research, told The Epoch Times. “The world as a whole is really reevaluating global energy supply chains and the need for a greater level of diversification.”

Thus far, however, America’s oil industry has remained cautious, holding off on major new investments and focusing instead on increasing output from existing wells. The combined number of oil and gas rigs operating in the United States declined from more than 700 in May 2023 to 558 today, according to Baker Hughes, an industry analytics firm.

And while the oil rig count has increased from 410 at the beginning of this year to 429 as of May 29, most producers remain reluctant to pour significant money into new wells.

“Operators are getting more barrels out of the rigs they already have through longer laterals—some wells now exceed three miles horizontally—better completion designs, simul-frac and trimul-frac operations [developing multiple wells in a single fracking operation], and AI-driven targeting,” Jason Isaac, CEO of the American Energy Institute, told The Epoch Times. “That efficiency curve is the only reason production is holding near records while the rig count keeps drifting lower.”

For all their hesitation to invest, however, U.S. oil companies are still producing at record levels, with output rising from about 5 million barrels of oil per day in 2010 to nearly 14 million barrels today, largely due to fracking technology.

Jason Isaac, CEO of the American Energy Institute, calls this “a strategic gift to the country” and “the single biggest reason this Hormuz crisis has not produced $200 oil and gasoline lines.

Pramila Jayapal working against the United States

White House rips Jayapal for working with foreign ambassadors to get oil to Cuba despite U.S. sanctions

Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a naturalized citizen and advocate for illegal immirants, told a Seattle audience she had been talking with ambassadors from Mexico and other countries about how to get oil to Cuba, a country under U.S. sanctions and on the State Sponsor of Terrorism list.

The White House responded with a blistering rebuke, and the remarks set off a firestorm over whether a sitting member of Congress crossed a legal and ethical line.

The Washington State Democrat made the comments during a recent briefing in Seattle after returning from a congressional delegation trip to Cuba in April, where she traveled with Rep. Jonathan Jackson, D-Ill. A video clip of her remarks circulated widely on X and drew immediate condemnation from the Trump administration, Republican lawmakers, and conservative commentators.

Fox News Digital reported that Jayapal described the situation on the island as "a crisis beyond imagination" and told the audience she had been working back channels with foreign diplomats to address Cuba's fuel shortages, shortages she blamed squarely on American policy.

Jayapal has also called for lifting the U.S. embargo, removing Cuba from the State Sponsor of Terrorism list, and backed legislation to block potential U.S. military action against the country.

White House spokesperson Olivia Wales did not mince words in her response to Fox News Digital:
"The Democrats continue to show Americans who they really are, the America Last party who sip margaritas with terrorists, advocate for illegal alien criminals, and undermine the United States to aid a failed, communist regime."

Iran's oil tankers disabled

U.S. forces on Friday enforced blockade measures

Two Iranian-flagged, unladen oil tankers attempting to pull into an Iranian port on the Gulf of Oman in violation of the ongoing blockade were involved, according to U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM).

The tankers, M/T Sea Star III and M/T Sevda, were reportedly disabled through strikes from a U.S. Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet from USS George H.W. Bush, preventing them from entering Iran.

U.S. forces also disabled the Iranian-flagged M/T Hasna on May 6, as it attempted to sail to an Iranian port in the Gulf of Oman, when an F/A-18 Super Hornet from USS Abraham Lincoln disabled the unladen oil tanker's rudder, hitting it with several rounds from a 20mm cannon gun. All three vessels are no longer transiting to Iran.

"U.S. forces in the Middle East remain committed to full enforcement of the blockade of vessels entering or leaving Iran," said Adm. Brad Cooper, CENTCOM commander said Friday. "Our highly trained men and women in uniform are doing incredible work," he added.

CENTCOM said that multiple commercial vessels have been disabled and more than 50 have been redirected, and announced on Friday that American forces are currently blocking more than 70 oil tankers from entering or leaving Iranian ports as part of a sweeping maritime enforcement operation.

Iranian War - High Risk for Trump

For Trump, Iranian war comes down to economic and political consequences

The regime in Tehran continues to defy Trump as the Supreme Leader declared on Thursday that the Islamic Republic will protect its "nuclear and missile capabilities" as a national asset, reports Associated Press.

A written statement attributed to Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei was read by a state television anchor. It struck a defiant tone, insisting the only place Americans belong in the Persian Gulf is "at the bottom of its waters."

His remarks come as Iran's oil industry is being squeezed by a U.S. Navy blockade halting its oil tankers from getting out to sea. Brent Crude, which serves as the benchmark for oil pricing globally, also reached $126 a barrel on Thursday but had dropped to $108 on Friday.

The U.S. and Iran’s opposite stance regarding Iran’s nuclear capabilities along with the increased pressure on the world economy are factors for Trump to consider going forward.

Robert Maginnis is president of Maginnis Strategies, LLC. He says it's about the cost of oil.

"The politics of this are closing in on the Trump administration. They've got to finish this off sooner rather than later. They have to have the economy stimulated. They have to have energy prices down,” says Maginnis. “We only have a short period of time before we have to pull out because the Democrats are going to take advantage of Trump's vulnerability on Iran."

Alaska Oil Lease Sales

Trump Administration’s Alaska Oil Lease Sale Generates $163 Million

Signals Energy Boom and Native Support

For four long years, the Biden administration strangled American energy production — and every household in the country felt the squeeze. Regulation after regulation choked off domestic oil and gas, sending fuel costs skyward while Washington delivered smug lectures about climate goals most Americans never asked for.

Heating bills ballooned. Gas prices gnawed at family budgets. And the communities most dependent on resource development — many of them indigenous — watched their livelihoods get torched in the name of green orthodoxy.

But something big just happened. Really big.

From Just the News:

The Department of Interior held an oil and gas lease sale this week for the National Petroleum Reserve Alaska (NPR-A). It was by every measure a huge success. The sale resulted in 187 leases and generated $163 million.

The sale brought in some of the big players in oil and gas, including Shell, Exxon, and ConocoPhillips. It signaled a lot of interest from the industry in oil and gas development on Alaska’s North Slope. It was a big win for Trump’s unleashing American energy policy, but it’s also a win for the North Slope Iñupiat Alaska natives.

Let that sink in. When the biggest names in global energy put $163 million on the table in a single sale, they aren’t dabbling. They’re making a serious bet on America’s energy future. And frankly, it’s about time.

Merchant Marine Act of 1920 (The Jones Act) in effect

Trump Just Unlocked Something Iran Never Expected Him to Use

The Jones Act

As of March 18, 2026, the Trump administration issued a 60-day waiver of the Jones Act. Obviously he believes the excursion with Iran will be over by then.

The waiver allows foreign-flagged vessels to transport vital resources—including oil, natural gas, fertilizer, and coal—between U.S. ports for a two-month period to ease supply chain disruptions.

Operation Epic Fury – the coordinated U.S.-Israel strikes launched February 28 that killed Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei – triggered the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps to mine the Strait of Hormuz and declare open season on any vessel attempting to pass.

The numbers are staggering. The strait carries roughly 21 million barrels of oil per day – one-fifth of global supply. Since the strikes, tanker traffic dropped from an average of 24 vessels per day to four on the first Sunday of the conflict. Three of those four were Iranian-flagged.

Brent crude has crossed $109 per barrel. Gas prices have surged 74 cents a gallon since the war began – the largest monthly increase since Katrina.

The European nations stonewalling Trump will face a reckoning when this is over.

Restoring a pipeline system vital to our national security and defense

Trump Administration Invokes Defense Production Act to Restart Offshore Oil Operations in California

Energy Secretary Chris Wright on Friday directed Sable Offshore Corp. to restore operations at the Santa Ynez Unit and the Santa Ynez Pipeline System off the coast of Santa Barbara, invoking the Defense Production Act to force the restart of shuttered offshore oil production in a state that has spent decades trying to kill it.

The order marks a direct challenge to California's anti-energy regulatory regime and sets up an inevitable legal collision with Gov. Gavin Newsom, who wasted no time calling the move "reckless and illegal."

According to Fox Business, the Department of Energy laid out the national security rationale in blunt terms:
"California once supplied nearly 40 percent of U.S. oil production, but decades of radical state policies targeting reliable energy sources have driven a decline in domestic output while fuel demand remains among the highest in the nation."
Today, more than 60 percent of the oil refined in California comes from overseas, with a significant share traveling through the Strait of Hormuz. That is not an energy policy. That is a vulnerability.

A state that once supplied nearly 40 percent of American oil production now cannot fuel itself without routing tankers through waters patrolled by the Iranian navy.

Iran’s Kharg Island

US strikes strategic island as Iran war enters its third week

U.S. forces struck more than 90 targets on Iran’s Kharg Island on Friday, U.S. Central Command said in a post on X on Saturday, the 15th day of the conflict.

The small coral island about 21 miles off Iran’s coast is the primary terminal through which nearly all of Iran’s oil exports pass.

The post, which included a video montage, noted that strikes hit military targets, like “naval mine storage facilities, missile storage bunkers,” while also “preserving the oil infrastructure.”

A Friday post by President Donald Trump on Truth Social similarly said “for reasons of decency, I have chosen NOT to wipe out the Oil Infrastructure on the Island,” but that the decision would be reconsidered if transit through the Strait of Hormuz continues to be threatened.

Exerting Maximum pressure on Iran

Trump, Netanyahu Plan to Press Iran to Cut Oil Sales to China

President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agreed at a White House meeting on Wednesday that the U.S. would work to reduce Iran's oil exports to China, Axios reported, citing two U.S. officials briefed on the issue.

"We agreed that we will go full force with maximum pressure against Iran, for example, regarding Iranian oil sales to China," Axios reported on Saturday, quoting a senior U.S. official.

Asked about the report, China's foreign ministry said on Sunday that "normal cooperation between countries conducted within the framework of international law is reasonable and legitimate, and should be respected and protected."

China accounts for more than 80% of Iran's oil exports.

Capture of tanker after Quarantine Violation

Hegseth announces capture of tanker after quarantine violation

I am not sure what it will take for it to sink in that the United States is not playing games when it comes to the quarantine around Venezuela.

After Trump issued the quarantine, several ships were seized, but the issue has been raised again. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has announced that yet another tanker has been boarded and seized.

In mid-December, Trump announced there would be a "complete blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers going into and out of Venezuela.”

Trump also started to move more military assets into the area to enforce the quarantine on Venezuelan oil.

Most would consider a blockade to be an act of war, but Marine Corps Col. Steve Ganyard, a former State Department official, said this was a quarantine, not a blockade, and it was perfectly legal in international waters.

Whatever jargon you want to use, it was clear that any tankers that violated this order would be seized and taken by the United States. “Overnight, U.S. military forces conducted a right-of-visit, maritime interdiction and boarding on the Aquila II without incident in the INDOPACOM area of responsibility."

Maduro wants Trump to start talking seriously 🤣

Maduro Signals Openness To Drug And Oil Talks After Military Strikes

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro announced on Thursday that his government is "ready" to negotiate a drug-trafficking agreement with the United States.

This follows months of escalating military pressure from the Trump administration, including a recent land strike on a Venezuelan port.

Maduro made the comments during a pre-taped interview with Spanish journalist Ignacio Ramonet, stating that Venezuela is prepared to talk "whenever they want it, wherever they want it and however they want it."

He called on the U.S. to "start talking seriously, with data in hand," regarding narcotics and oil investment.

In the meantime, the Trump administration has continued to intensify pressure, recently designating the Maduro regime as a foreign terrorist organization.

Venezuela Regime designated a Foreign Terrorist Organization

US Targets 3rd Oil Tanker Near Venezuela

The U.S. Coast Guard is actively pursuing a third oil tanker off the coast of Venezuela, according to a U.S. official.

“The United States Coast Guard is in active pursuit of a sanctioned dark fleet vessel that is part of Venezuela’s illegal sanctions evasion. It is flying a false flag and under a judicial seizure order,” the official told the Washington Examiner on Sunday evening.

The pursuit began less than 24 hours after Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced the seizure of a second oil tanker in the Caribbean following its first seizure of a tanker it said was carrying illicit oil near Venezuelan waters on Dec. 10.

The Dec. 10 seizure captured illicit oil from a tanker named Skipper, Saturday’s seizure targeted a tanker named Centuries, and Sunday’s pursuit is targeting Bella 1.

Recently, President Donald Trump declared a blockade on all ships carrying sanctioned oil in and out of Venezuela.

“The illegitimate Maduro Regime is using Oil from these stolen Oil Fields to finance themselves, Drug Terrorism, Human Trafficking, Murder, and Kidnapping. For the theft of our Assets, and many other reasons, including Terrorism, Drug Smuggling, and Human Trafficking, the Venezuelan Regime has been designated a FOREIGN TERRORIST ORGANIZATION.

Trump’s Permian Basin gamble faces its biggest test

Oil executives spill the beans on what happens to prices in 2026

Biden nearly destroyed America’s energy independence.

Trump rescued it in record time.

And oil executives just revealed one stunning prediction about 2026 that changes everything. The heart of American oil country just delivered news nobody in Washington, D.C. saw coming.

Chevron CEO Mike Wirth sat down with FOX Business’ Maria Bartiromo in the middle of the Permian Basin and dropped a truth bomb about where oil prices are headed. “We’re prepared for prices in ’26 to be lower than they were in ’25,” Wirth told Bartiromo without hesitation.

This isn’t some Wall Street analyst making predictions from a Manhattan office tower. Wirth runs operations in the Permian Basin, which now pumps 40% of America’s oil and will hit 70% by 2040. He sees 2026 as the “low point” before the market stabilizes and prices climb back.

Diamondback Energy CEO Kaes Van’t Hof backed him up with even more direct language. “Economics drive capital allocation decisions. Today, oil’s at $57 a barrel. I don’t think we’re necessarily high-fiving with that oil price,” Van’t Hof explained. Translation: $57 oil hurts.

The executives are betting everything that American energy can survive a brutal price war in 2026.

Secretary of State Challenges China to open Strait of Hormuz

China Chooses Commerce Over Comrades After Rubio’s Diplomatic Checkmate

In the high-stakes chess game of international politics, alliances often prove as fragile as a house of cards when economic interests are threatened. As tensions escalate in the Middle East following President Trump’s decisive strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities this weekend, Tehran’s retaliatory threats have revealed just how quickly allegiances can shift.

Iran’s Parliament recently endorsed a provocative measure to close the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow waterway between Iran and Oman that serves as a critical choke point for global oil shipments. Approximately 20% of the world’s oil consumption flows through this maritime corridor daily.

For China, which has positioned itself as Iran’s staunch ally, the threat poses an acute dilemma. Chinese imports from Iran surpassed 1.8 million barrels per day last month, creating a dependency that the Trump administration was quick to recognize.

It was Secretary of State Marco Rubio who made the strategic move, directly challenging Beijing to rein in its ally during a Sunday interview on Fox News.

And they did!
