The Village of Broadview, which receives more than a million dollars in federal funds every year, somehow decided the best use of taxpayer-funded space was to slam the door on federal officials.

If this sounds ridiculous, that’s because it is. But it’s also the perfect symbol of how Illinois leadership treats the rule of law: when they can’t win the argument, they just lock the doors.

Let’s be clear: this wasn’t a political stunt from Noem. The video shows her politely asking, “Can we use your restroom?” and the answer from inside was a blunt, “No you cannot!”

A man was shot and killed by ICE agents in the Chicago area after driving a car at an officer, immigration officials confirmed.

Officials named him as Silverio Villegas-Gonzalez and said he was in the country illegally,date unknown when he entered.

A video posted online showed the moment a lorry driver called police to report his vehicle had been hit by the man’s car in Franklin Park village, 15 miles north-west of Chicago.

“I’m a CDL (commercial driver’s licence) truck driver,” the driver says. “A car hit my trailer. I think ICE tried to pull him over and he crashed into my trailer.”

A spokesman for the department of homeland security (DHS) said Friday morning’s incident occurred during “an enforcement operation targeting a criminal illegal alien.”

He refused to follow law enforcement commands and drove his car at law enforcement officers,” said a DHS statement. “One of the ICE officers was hit by the car and dragged a significant distance. Fearing for his own life, the officer fired his weapon.”

The bill that passed in the Senate 36/19 would prevent state and local law enforcement agencies from collaborating with federal agencies such as Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or from otherwise inquiring about an individual’s immigration status unless presented with a federal warrant.

Under SB 667, all existing immigrant detention centers in the state would be required to close by Jan. 1, 2022. The bill would also allow the state attorney general’s office to investigate violations of the TRUST Act and enforce compliance through local courts.

Chicago Democrat Omar Aquino introduced the bill and said that law enforcement still could do its job--"The bill would not prevent law enforcement agencies from investigating or detaining individuals in violation of criminal law." Good luck to that.
