‘Senior Bonus’ in Trump Agenda Bill Would Temporarily Provide Relief to Americans Over 65

‘The President and House Republicans are providing much needed tax relief to middle and low-income seniors,’ says Jim Martin, 60 Plus Association chairman.

The One Big Beautiful Bill Act, narrowly approved by the House of Representatives on May 22, includes a tax break for Americans older than 65 in the form of a temporary deduction of $4,000.

In lieu of President Donald Trump’s campaign pledge to eliminate taxes on Social Security benefits, this deduction, called the “senior bonus,” would offer a smaller tax cut, targeted to benefit lower-income seniors.

The House bill allows seniors, whether they take the standard deduction or itemize their returns, to deduct an additional $4,000 from their taxable income. It phases out for single filers earning more than $75,000, or $150,000 for taxpayers filing jointly.

The deduction would last from 2025 through 2028. For those who qualify the deduction reduces taxable income and is distinct from a tax credit, which would be a dollar-for-dollar reduction in taxes.

Social Security's Buying Power Eroded by 36%

Inflation has lowered Social Security benefits’ buying power by a substantial 36% since 2000, according to The Senior Citizens League.

The average senior citizen relying on Social Security benefits would need $517 more per month to cover the cost of daily items that have risen at higher rates than Social Security’s annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA), CNN reports.

They Have Just Made A MASSIVE Raise To Social Security And….

Well, it looks like millions upon millions of elderly Americans will be getting the biggest raise of their lifetime and that includes me. Of course, Biden has made me 50% more poor since he took office.

It turns out that folks who collect Social Security will be getting MUCH higher monthly payouts thanks to the annual adjustment for inflation. I guess Seniors can thank Biden for that, sort of, no really, anyway, the announcement came on Thursday, and we’re being told that this will be the highest increase in 4 decades. That's how long I paid into it.

Maybe people will now have enough to buy a carton of yogurt. A carton of plain, boring yogurt that I used to pay 3 bucks for is now SIX DOLLARS. It’s insane how high these prices are and honestly, I don’t know how some people are managing. I don't go out to restaurants with the frequency I did before Biden--they all raised their prices; we are all cutting way back.

Of course, there is a lot of controversy surrounding this move, which is also called a cost-of-living adjustment. Many critics believe government data is outdated and doesn’t actually reflect the struggles that seniors are facing right now in Joe Biden’s terrible economy. Publix at 7am...1st day for Seniors--Tues and Wed from 7am to 8am. Now, when I got in there, they were almost out of toilet paper. I saw people with two packages in their carts. One customer was wearing a mask. I cruised the aisles singing "Crazy."

was in the chamber last night along with some members of the Senior Group that meets at the Osborne Center every Tuesday and Thursday between 10am and 1pm. They went to our Florida capitol for the annual senior event. It was said that there are 39 cities in Palm Beach County and Lake Worth was one of two that went to Tallahassee.

They are an extremely active senior group with "faith, fun and flair." They gave a plaque to Commissioner Maxwell for being so faithful in his support of their group and thanked Herman Robinson as well. City Manager Bornstein accepted for Maxwell as he was absent from the meeting due to a death in his family.

Lake Worth has A Senior Social Program

It's been years since the City of Lake Worth took away the Senior Center. Seniors loved this place and could stroll over there for a nice lunch every day. The City then rented out the Shuffleboard Court building which took away Seniors' Bridge and shuffleboard games which they really enjoyed. Prior to all of that, they took away the concerts in the Park held at the Bryant Park bandshell. So it is more than fitting that they finally have something for Seniors.

What Obama is up to now! It's about Guns again

Earlier this year, the Social Security Administration issued a proposal for new regulations that would result in their reporting millions of Americans to the FBI’s background check system with the purpose of banning them from being able to purchase a firearm.

Under the new proposal, anyone receiving Social Security Disability or other benefits who need help with their finances will be deemed to have a mental disorder. Those people will then be reported to the FBI who will then place them on a list to ban them from passing any background check which would ban them from being able to purchase a gun.

Amendment 5 would change the existing language regarding homestead tax exemption so that the value of property owned by eligible senior citizens, those with a household income of $20,000 or less, could be assessed when they first apply for the exemption. This would ensure eligible seniors' ability to be able to keep their tax exemption even if their home value exceeded $250,000 in the future. If approved by voters, the amendment would take effect on January 1, 2017, and it would apply retroactively to exemptions provided before that date.

As the City of Lake Worth concentrates on infrastructure at the Park of Commerce and pouring multi-millions of taxpayer money into that end, a dead person was found in the community pool at Palm Beach Mobile Home Park, a long time residential community located off of Boutwell Road for those over 55. The circumstances of the death  are unknown other than an abrasion on the head of the deceased. Click here...

This is a park that has had a lot of crime over the last year...drug addicts and even a Sober Home is housed there.  Crime has been escalating out of control. I have been told that the park residents have some private security help. Seniors are very vulnerable and criminals know it.

Seniors Protest at Lake Worth City Hall - "We're being treated like garbage"

They came in their wheel chairs, their motorized scooters, their canes and their pride. They were all senior citizens, some in their 90's, one with Multiple Sclerosis. One lady was on oxygen with one lung remaining. They were all there to protest about a city decision to end their garbage pick-up in front of their homes. City Manager Bornstein said they fell through the cracks as the Zoning was changed there in 2009 and garbage pick-up should have changed at that time. Not so, says the park residents...the city changed the zoning in 2012 but it was only recently that they received a letter from the city telling them that curbside service would end.

If you recall, about ten days ago the president of the homeowner's association at Palm Beach Mobile Home Park located off Boutwell Road in the Park of Commerce sent me a letter with all of their concerns...I posted it on my blog. The residents were upset that where they live has been rezoned to commercial from residential and now they say that the city wants to end their garbage pick-up in front of their house wanting them to deposit it in a central dumpster within the property.

Scott Maxwell showed up saying he would get to the "bottom of it."  The Park of Commerce is his "baby" and now, as that old cliche goes, the park residents feel they are being thrown out with the bath water.

No one from the city has explained to them what is going on or that we are pouring $11 million into the Park of Commerce this year for infrastructure to attract development. All they know is, they now are denied permits for their homes and have been told that they cannot get their roads fixed. The straw that broke the camel's back? Ending garbage pick-up in front of their homes.

I don't know if you can help us or not but the over 600 "seniors" at Palm Beach Mobile Home Park are very upset with the current Lake Worth City Council and Mayor.  It does not appear that they care about what is happening to our city or our specific community.

We have the following concerns:

1. They changed the zoning of the park to Industrial without giving us a chance to voice our opinion.  They used the excuse that they sent out a letter several years ago to the previous owners of the park that the current owners did not know anythings about.  The previous owners objected to their plans but that did not matter to Lake Worth.  A few years back we found out only by having one of our residents being refused a permit to add a Florida room to his home.  He was told that no one could add any square footage to their homes as we were now zoned as industrial.

2. We just found out recently that since we were zoned as Commercial (now they are using this term) that they no longer had to provide us with curbside Garbage pick up.  They would now require the residents to place their garbage in a container that will be placed in the common area of the park.  WE ARE SENIORS IN THIS PARK and to expect people in their 70's, 80's and 90's to haul their garbage to a container and then try to get it in the container is in our opinion elder abuse.  Their excuse is that our streets are too narrow to do safe pick up.  I have lived here since 1982 and they have not had this problem in the past, why is it a problem now.

3. We have a street that the residents used to come in and out of the park (Joyce Street) that is full of pot holes and they state that they have no intention of repairing the street.

4. With their new plan of "building their 'Park of Commerce' there are plans to take some of the property that is now park property to achieve their goals.

5.We have had an increase in crimes in our park as well as the area around us and yet that does not seem to concern them.

We feel that they are trying to take the park away from us.  We live on limited incomes (maybe we don't pay the city enough to live here).  To force over 600 senior citizens out of the park or to take services away from us or to zone this park as Industrial shows us that seniors do not matter to the city.  From their plans it looks like they just want the upper class here.  They treat us like trailer trash.

The city needs to concentrate on decreasing crimes rather than building more useless buildings.  They need to care more about the people of this city and not on how they can make more money to spend it anyway they want or lining their pockets.

I don't care what they say, this city has declined tremendously since I moved here.  It was a safer and cleaner city.  Making Lake Avenue beautiful did not make the city more beautiful.  Making the beach more beautiful only took more of the beach away from the residents.  They took the naturalness away from it and made it look like something from a ritzy resort.  I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

We were a beautiful quaint little town and now we are a town with crime so bad that you can no longer walk the streets and be ensured of a nice evening.  Their vision is obscured by their own personal needs.  Wake up Lake Worth.  Tourists have come here for years.  The Canadians have been coming here and buying property for years.  Now they are selling their properties because of the decline in Lake Worth.  Stop making laws that are pointless and that no one is going to enforce and start fixing the problem.

Thank you for allowing me to vent my concerns that are felt by all of us.

The seniors are a healthy base. They have sold their homes up North and have come down here to retire. They bring their life savings with them--all their securities, etc. For the most part, this is an ideal people to appeal to instead of those who aren't even citizens. They are law-abiding and peaceful folks. But Lake Worth is no longer doing that.

We in Lake Worth, just a few years ago, had a healthy Senior population (14%) and the City catered to them by providing recreational services. They played at our shuffleboard courts and had many tournaments. We had Thursday nights for the big band sound concerts at Bryant Park, when the park was safe. Developers built entire communities just for them providing a pool, clubhouse and -- shuffleboard courts. Seniors had trolley transportation and had a senior center where they could walk to and socialize. The message was to come to Lake Worth and have a carefree time with all the amenities, no worries and live in a safe city.

We didn't have a lot of garbage strewn around. People could actually speak English (only 47% do now). The culture was all about respect for our environment, respect for our laws and respect for our neighbors. There were 144 registered sex offenders living in Lake Worth, Florida as of October 19, 2015 according to City Data. Crime is out of control.

Now that the average age is around 35 with those having a bunch of kids, the priority has shifted. No longer is Lake Worth attracting the retiree. In fact, the Senior has been retired to obscurity and Lake Worth is concentrating on the poor artist, building affordable housing, (the City now has a loan program for poor people to buy houses), bulldozing our shuffleboard courts, and all the amenities that used to exist for our retirees are no longer.

 Florida is not even in the top 10 for retirement. Now they're going to Arizona and elsewhere.
