The unwelcome, destructive guests should be gone now, thanks to a tenting job that ended the termites' after-hours stay in the historic Lake Worth Beach hotel.

Restoration St. Louis, a Missouri-based firm specializing in historic restoration, is hard at work getting the historic hotel at 1 Lake Avenue ready for its redo. Next up is tackling asbestos in the aged building.

In addition to restoring the hotel, plans also include the addition of 50 hotel rooms, plus 85 apartments and a parking garage in an eight-story building.

LAKE WORTH BEACH — With its future in the balance, Benny's on the Beach is hoping to strike a deal and keep the historic oceanfront restaurant open in Lake Worth Beach after city commissioners voted down a 10-year lease renewal last week.

"We truly believe 100% that calmer minds will prevail and Benny's will be here," restaurant owner Lee Lipton said this week. "We will do everything in our power, within reason, to make that happen."

Benny's on the Beach has about a month remaining on the lease for its pier location. Lipton said the restaurant's attorney was in contact with Lake Worth Beach's attorney, Glen Torcivia, and that conversations were ongoing as of Wednesday.

Trans community, rallying in LW Beach, vows to withstand new laws

About 100 people walked from Compass to the Lake Worth Cultural Plaza during Friday's March for Queer and Trans Youth Autonomy. They carried trans pride flags adorned with pink, blue and white stripes — a design created by Monica Helms, a trans woman, in 1999.

What they are demonstrating about:

Florida's SB 254 would prohibit anyone under age 18 from undergoing transgender sex-reassignment surgeries or taking prescription-based cross-sex hormones to treat gender dysphoria.

"This legislation sends a strong message that Florida is a safe place to raise children. As the father of four young boys, I know that childhood is as special as it is short. Florida parents are worried about the radical, prurient agenda that has become pervasive across most forms of media, specifically targeting young children.

The Palm Beach Post reports as follows and my explanation in red: SB 254 (Granting courts of this state temporary emergency jurisdiction over a child present in this state if the child has been subjected to or is threatened with being subjected to sex-reassignment prescriptions or procedures;) and HB 1421 (gender clinical interventions) enshrine a ban on gender-affirming health care for trans youth into law, including criminal penalties for health care providers who take part in such treatments. The bills also state that a child custody determination can be entered, modified or stayed “to the extent necessary to protect the child from being subjected to gender clinical interventions.”

HB 1069 (revises provisions relating to instruction & materials for specified instruction relating to reproductive health; provides additional requirements for instruction regarding human sexuality; provides district school boards are responsible for materials used in classroom libraries; revises provisions relating to objections of certain materials & process related to such objections; revises school principal, school district & district school board duties & responsibilities relating to certain materials & processes.) and HB 1223 (Requires specified policies relating to person's sex at public K-12 educational institutions; prohibits specified actions relating to use of certain titles & pronouns; & revises requirements for instruction on sexual orientation & gender identity in public schools. referred to Education and Employment Committee) would ban school employees from asking a student for “his or her preferred personal title or pronouns,” and it would prevent school employees from sharing their own pronouns if they don't “correspond to his or her sex.”

Gov. Ron DeSantis’ administration is also working to ban classroom instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity in all grades, elementary through high school. The proposal, which would not require legislative approval, is scheduled for a vote by the State Board of Education.

"In November and December alone, Lake Worth Beach has dealt with four power outages - two caused by raccoons and another two caused by iguanas.

Iguanas and other lizards are the top animal causes of outages in Lake Worth Beach. Squirrels, birds and raccoons are a close second. In 2022, there have been 30 sustained power outages (defined as an outage of more than one minute) from animal contacts caused by iguanas and other lizards (19), birds (nine), raccoons (two) and a snake (one).

Lake Worth Beach often deals with meddling raccoons at power substations that will electrocute themselves and cause major power outages. "Most of the time, it's instant death," Liberty said. "You're talking about 26,000 volts and the result is pretty gruesome."

City of Lake Worth Beach 2022/2023 12% Tax increase

General fund spending in Lake Worth Beach will increase nearly 8.5%

in the next fiscal year under the city's operating budget of $184.1 million that was approved Sept. 22.

The 2023 budget — about 8% higher than in 2022 when it was $170 million — is divided into governmental funds and enterprise funds.

Governmental funds, which includes the general fund, total $71.1 million of the operating budget. The enterprise funds make up $113 million with the biggest share ($70 million) going to the city's electric utility.

The city projects a 12% increase in the tax levy, thanks primarily to a jump in taxable property that will bring in $14.2 million in 2023 compared to $12.4 million in 2022.

There's no change the city's property tax rate of $8.95 per $1,000 of assessed value. That rate combines the general fund rate of $5.49 with a separate rate of $3.46 that covers the cost of Palm Beach County Fire Rescue services.

General fund expenditures will rise 8.5% over the previous year.

More than 40% of Lake Worth Beach's $43.7 million general fund budget goes to pay its contract with the Palm Beach Sheriff's Office to provide law-enforcement services. The cost of doing business with PBSO rose 1.5% to $18 million annually. [PalmBeachPost]

"Equity" in Boynton Beach instead of "Equality"

Redefining words is one of the ways leftists exercise control over the citizenry

This particular word of which I speak is "equity."

"Liberals, socialists and communists love that word. Until fairly recently, equity was a concept attached to real estate and property ownership. But, in case you hadn’t noticed, it has become an oft-repeated word regarding race, virtually replacing the word “equality” altogether. No one on the Left is talking about equality anymore. Instead, they’re talking about equity."

And that's what they're talking about in Boynton Beach where their commission voted to create an executive position--Director of Equity that will pay $$238,000 in salary and perks.

Their bent out of shape belief that we were all f-d-up and unfair towards people of race started with the criminal George Floyd. Everyone should be making the same and have the same opportunities as Whites qualified or not. Of course, all citizens have the exact same opportunities in this country, whether believed or not by the Alt-Left Boynton Beach Commission.

Now Boynton and other Left-wing cities are going back to racial profiling and Affirmative Action, which promtoes discrimination in reverse and reinforces stereotypes.

I have always said that politics starts at the local level. It is imperative that we vote in conservatives to city and county commissions in order to save our country..

"In the summer leading up to the deadly terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, 12 of the 19 hijackers spent much of the last three months of their lives in Palm Beach County. They shopped at Winn-Dixie and Target, banked at SunTrust and even visited Lion Country Safari.

But, of course, they also prepared to unleash the deadliest attack on U.S. soil in history."

It was either late 2000 or sometime in 2001 when I was walking near Brogues with friends and a group of about 5 Mid-Eastern looking men strolled by. They all looked out of place. None looked like they were happy or having fun. I asked them where they were from and one said, "Israel." They continued to walk east and ended up sitting on the steps of The Gulfstream Hotel. I have often wondered through the years if I ran into some who did our country harm and ended up killing nearly 3,000 people and bringing down the World Trade Center. The thought has never left me.

We know several trained at the Lantana Airport. "Lantana, once known as the home of the National Enquirer, also hosted the two pilots who trained there to hit the World Trade Center. Mohammed Atta and Marwan al-Shehhi spent time at businesses headquartered at the airport and nearby on Lantana Road."

Well, the only surprise from this Alt-Left newspaper was doing something right--the endorsement for Mayor Pam Triolo. Omari Hardy's wish to kick her off the dais has been setbck by this endorsement.

The rest of their endorsements are no surprise: a Democratic Socialist, a Globalist Biden supporter who loves Omari Hardy, and a minority to take the seat that she was appointed to and once held by racist Omari Hardy. If there was an illegal alien running they would probably endorse him/her too.

The Post's article is full of lies and fantasy. Sure don't know who they've been listening/talking to...What they said: "a city leadership struggling to complete capital projects, settle on a clear direction for downtown development and fighting a perception of being unresponsive to city residents —particularly the Black and Latino communities that make up the majority of Lake Worth Beach’s population."

As a side of trivia and according to one demographic, non-citizens make up 27.2% of our population in the city and according to Neighborhood Scout, foreign born residents make up 37.4%.

The commissioners agreed to Mayor Triolo's request to continue the moratorium on Utility cut-offs until the beginning of October

"Maxwell jumped into the fray as well, threatening to release "hard evidence" he said proves Hardy knew at the March 19 meeting that utility customers were not being shut off. Hardy smiled and shook his head as Maxwell fumed.

"And you can sit back there with that smug smile on your face and create your next viral video," Maxwell said. "I hope that works out for you really, really well."

Omari Hardy gets Post Endorsement

Post endorses: Skidmore, Hardy, Domino in Florida House primaries

First of all, congratulations to our friend, Carl Domino, for getting the Palm Beach Post endorsement.

Omari Hardy got the Sun Sentinel endorsement as well as the Post's. He is the only candidate who showed up for the interview. Why anyone running for office would ignore the invitation to meet with the Post's Editorial board is a mystery. I have reprinted the portion of the article pertaining to Hardy.

HOUSE DISTRICT 88: Incumbent Rep. Al Jacquet has poorly served this district, which was mapped out to favor Black representation — missing meetings, dodging constituents and racking up fines for failing to complete campaign reports on time. He hit a notable low by hurling a gay slur at one of his opponents.

Four other candidates are hoping to send him packing in the Democratic primary. Our pick is Omari Hardy, 30, an educator with the West Palm Beach Housing Authority. Hardy is also a Lake Worth Beach city commissioner whose profile soared on social media for a heated flare-up with other officials over utility shutoffs when the pandemic hit. Since then, he’s been at the center of combustible discussions over racism and policing in the city. He led an unsuccessful push to rename Dixie Highway because of its connotations with the Confederacy.

As a state representative, Hardy says his first priority is to be “more present and lucid” than Jacquet. Further, he will push for more public education funding, investing in public broadband to shrink the digital divide, expanding Medicaid, and making housing more affordable through concepts he says are working in other states.

The other candidates — former Riviera Beach councilman Cedric Thomas, radio personality Philippe “Bob” Louis Jeune, lawyer Siena Osta, and Jacquet himself — did not respond to the Editorial Board’s invitation for an interview.

Palm Beach Post:  Palm Beach County Commissioners voted unanimously to back out of a national class-action lawsuit sparked by the opioid epidemic. Palm Beach Post--WEST PALM BEACH — As the saying goes, “there is strength in numbers.” But Palm Beach County commissioners believe there is more to gain by fighting an opioid battle in the courts alone.

That’s why commissioners unanimously voted to opt out of the national opioid class action lawsuit on Tuesday.

“Primarily, it’s because Palm Beach County happens to be one of the probably three worst hit counties in the United States,” said James Ferraro, who is one of the attorney’s representing the county in this case.

Palm Beach County initially filed its lawsuit in April 2018 against opioid manufacturers, pharmacies and three doctors, claiming they caused a local opioid crisis.

We all know how bad it is as the County is moving the homeless into John Prince Park that are coming from all over the county. The affliction of the Homeless is primarily due to that of drugs and mental illness.

Letter from a Lake Worthian who doesn't love our country

Following is a Letter to the Editor from a Lake Worthian who is another liberal who has fallen foot, line and sinker to the Democrat bullet points. It's a shame that so many liberals don't like our country and so many have abandoned God and many of them live right here in our city. Everyone has equal justice in America.

By reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, every American promises to be true to the United States of America. What's so difficult about that? The freedom available will not be taken for granted and each American will remember the countless men, women and children who have given their lives through the centuries, so that they can live peacefully today.

As far as his statement on The Statute of Liberty, it is not actually inscribed on the Statue of Liberty but rather on a plaque. The only Statue of Liberty inscription can be found on the tablet in her left hand, which says JULY IV MDCCLXXVI (July 4, 1776), the day the United States adopted the Declaration of Independence.

Our country has always encouraged legal immigration and people who want to come here and love America, assimilate, learn English, say the Pledge and abide by our laws. That's not asking too much to live in the greatest country on Earth.

Pledge of Allegiance needs a rewrite

I am having a hard time reciting our Pledge of Allegiance because the words no longer relate to the America of 2019.

It would be a more relevant and honest pledge if we changed “One nation, indivisible, under God, with liberty and justice for all...”

To: “One nation, totally divided by race, color and religion, insulting God, without liberty and justice for all...”

This would be consistent with the suggested changes to the wording on the Statue of Liberty, also intended to reflect our present country.

The Palm Beach Post must wonder why subscriptions have fallen but they should know.

The Palm Beach Post has a section on their Opinion page entitled "Two Views." One is from the Left politically speaking and the other, according to the Post, is written from a conservative point of view or from the Right.

Would you be surprised to learn that they never have a conservative point of view and continue to bundle writers from The New York Times and The Washington Post, two totally liberal rags, on the Right opinion side of the page. They even have Charles Krauthammer, an anti Trump writer, writing an opinion piece for the Right.

Today they even went so far as to feature a Trump hater in the Lake Worth section, a section that is not supposed to be about featuring theirs or someone's left wing politics. And I agree with the artist when she says. "Our democracy and way of life are really being challenged right now." It is people like her and the left-wing news media that are the problems.

And one would think, with all this hype and fantasy about a Trump Russian connection, that Putin's statements in the Megyn Kelly interview would have been on page 1 today.

A few weeks ago they were finally honest and didn't bother hiding their bias especially against President Trump.

Their Two Views Section with two articles supposedly with different points of view were both From the Left...something all of us have known for years, but this time they were honest and told us its was "From the Left."
