Lake Worth Beach voted for micro-units to help with Affordable Housing
We need affordable housing in Lake Worth
There was a time, and not too long ago, that 75% of the housing in our city was affordable...not any more. Prices are out of sight because of this crazy economy and run-away inflation.Micro units are fine especially for retired people who want to downsize and on a fixed income or for those on a very tight budget, etc.
William Waters, Sustainability Director, says he estimates the cost of a micro-unit would be anywhere between $250-$300 per square foot. Whew!
That means for a 250 square foot micro-unit up to 750 square feet at $250 per square foot, the price would start at $62,500. For a 250-750 square foot micro-unit at $300 per square foot, the cost would be $75,000.
According to Commissioner Malega, the units will be located in these areas as follows:
Downtown Corridor
Federal Highway
Dixie Highway
TOD EAST and WEST (Transit Oriented Development)
Mixed Use East
