Greene, Massie, Kent and Carlson float third-party challenge amid GOP divide over Iran war

Former Republican Representatives Marjorie Taylor Greene and Thomas Massie joined Tucker Carlson and ex-Trump counterterrorism official Joe Kent for a public show of unity around a new political "movement", one built on opposition to the president's Iran war.

Greene shared a photo of the four seated around a wooden table on X on Aug. 1, declaring that Trump "betrayed us all" by breaking his promise to avoid foreign wars. The post drew nearly 10 million views and was shared 15,000 times, a measure of how far frustration with the war has spread inside the president's own base.

The gathering amounts to the most visible step yet by dissident figures on the populist right to channel that frustration into something organized. Greene, Massie, Carlson, and Kent have each paid a political or professional price for breaking with the White House. Now they say they want to build an alternative.

Kent Resignation Letter Stunt

Former Trump deputy chief of staff says Joe Kent was about to be fired before resignation stunt over Iran

Joe Kent, a key deputy to Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, posted a resignation letter on X on Tuesday declaring he could no longer serve in the administration. His stated reason: opposition to the "ongoing war in Iran."

Within hours, a former top White House official was publicly suggesting Kent didn't quit on principle. He was about to get shown the door.

Taylor Budowich, President Trump's former deputy chief of staff, wasted no time torching Kent's exit on X:

"Joe Kent is a crazed egomaniac who was often at the center of national security leaks, while rarely (never?) producing any actual work."

"He spent all of his time working to subvert the chain of command and undermine the President of the United States."

Budowich's conclusion was blunt:
"This isn't some principled resignation — he just wanted to make a splash before getting canned. What a loser."

The drama of posting your resignation letter on social media tells you everything about the intended audience. This was performance, not principle.

FBI Launches Probe Into Head of Counterterrorism Unit

FBI Investigation Allegations;

Semafor reported that Joe Kent, who recently resigned as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, is the subject of an FBI investigation into alleged leaks of classified information. The report says the probe began before his resignation. The investigation predates Kent’s departure.

An active FBI review of a senior counterterrorism official is a very serious matter. Leaks of classified material can harm operations and put lives at risk. We need clear answers about what was leaked, when, and whether the leaks crossed legal lines. Americans deserve transparency when national security is on the table.

Kent announced his resignation and blasted the U.S. response to Iran, saying Iran posed no imminent threat and that the war began because of pressure from Israel and its American supporters.

He framed his decision as a matter of conscience and cited his military service and personal loss to explain why he could not support the conflict. Those are explosive accusations.

If a top intelligence official believes policy is being driven by foreign influence, that claim must be investigated on its merits. At the same time, making public claims while holding classified responsibilities raises obvious concerns about judgment and protocol.

Fox News White House correspondent Jacqui Heinrich reported that officials called Kent a known leaker and that he had been removed from President Donald Trump’s intelligence briefings months earlier. He has not been part of any Iran planning discussions or briefings at all.
