Lake Worth Man wins lottery, then immediately gets robbed in Palm Springs parking lot

"A man from Lake Worth was assaulted and robbed in a parking lot shortly after discovering he had a winning lottery ticket.

The Palm Springs Police Department (PSPD) said on November 17, just before noon in the rear parking lot of Laundry Time at 4360 Lake Worth Road, a 58-year-old victim had bought two scratch-off tickets from La Bodega, a nearby store, and realized one was a winner.

After claiming his winnings, the victim walked back through the same parking lot when he was attacked by a man — later identified as 24-year-old Christian Nasir Nelloms — described as tall, athletic, and wearing a yellow hoodie.

Nelloms allegedly punched the victim several times, pushed him to the ground, and stole a 14K gold Cuban link chain valued at $1,000 and a matching bracelet worth about $1,200, according to the police report.

Police obtained surveillance footage showing the suspect waiting behind the business before the attack. Using facial recognition, investigators identified Nelloms, a Riviera Beach resident. Nelloms was later picked out of a photo lineup by the victim and was arrested for robbery, a second-degree felony."

Palm Springs kicking out Swap Shop and Drive-In Theater

A retail flea market and drive-in theatre in Palm Beach County is set to close

According to a statement obtained by WPBF 25 News on Friday, the Lake Worth Drive-In Theatre and Swap Shop, located at 3438 Lake Worth Road in Palm Springs, will close on Friday, Oct. 3.

The Swap Shop’s final day of operation is Tuesday, Sept. 30.

“Due to restrictions by the Village of Palm Springs, (they have re-written their codes I have been told) which does not permit Flea Markets or Outdoor Theaters within its city limits, we are unable to continue operating at this location.

Despite our efforts to work with the city to keep the flea market open, we were unable to secure approval,” the Swap Shop said in a statement.

Palm Beach County Property Appraiser records note the property has been owned by the Swap Shop since April 2003.

Lake Worth settles a lawsuit with Palm Springs

Who knows what the City of Lake Worth pays for legal fees.  The mayor likes to tell us that we pay "hundreds of thousands less" now that they hired Glen Torcivia Law firm. The budget tells us differently. All we know, is that mistakes continue to happen under this Commission majority of Amoroso, Maxwell and Triolo.  Law suits are settled sometimes for very large sums. This time it was settled through credits rather than in cash.

Under the Consent Agenda 9-E, Palm Springs claimed that the City of Lake Worth owes uncollected public services tax and franchise fees due on property annexed into Palm Springs during the period from 2010-2013. Staff requested direction regarding the claim at the August 4, 2015, Regular Commission meeting.

The City engaged Manson Bolves Donaldson P.A. to resolve the claim, due to a stated conflict of interest of the City Attorney. The Settlement Agreement resolves the claim through credits over a three year period, instead of providing a cash settlement. Interest of 3% is included in the settlement amount.

The settlement agreement, regarding public services tax and franchise fees with the Village of Palm Springs amounts to $286,589.04 over a period of 36 months.

Sunday Fun Day

Palm Springs wants to change its city code allowing alcohol to be sold on Sundays beginning at 7am. The city said that it wanted its retail alcohol sales to be more in line with surrounding cities and that the present code was "unfair" to businesses.  They cited 5 municipalities where they reviewed code but Lake Worth was not one of them.

Sec. 5-4.
Hours of sale. No person shall sell, deliver, consume or permit the sale, delivery, service or consumption of alcoholic beverages on the premises except for the following hours where a business holds a legal alcohol license:
(a) The hours of sale of alcoholic beverages of more than one (1) percent of alcohol by weight shall be:

 (1) 12:00 a.m. (midnight) to 2:00 a.m., and 7:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
 (2) 12:00 a.m. (midnight) to 2:00 a.m., and 12:00 p.m. (Noon) to 11:59 p.m. Sunday.
