Biden EPA proposal on 'fossil fuel' power plant emissions would force many existing plants to shut down

The EPA's proposed rule would require existing and new power plants to dramatically reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 90 percent, using currently inefficient and cost-prohibitive so-called "carbon capture" technology, or be shut down by 2035, The Epoch Times reported.

A press release from the EPA on Thursday announced the new proposed carbon pollution standards for fossil fuel-fired power plants and put forward a number of broad estimates of the alleged benefits in terms of climate change and health.

"By proposing new standards for fossil fuel-fired power plants, EPA is delivering on its mission to reduce harmful pollution that threatens people’s health and well-being," EPA Administrator Michael Regan said. "EPA’s proposal relies on proven, readily available technologies to limit carbon pollution and seizes the momentum already underway in the power sector to move toward a cleaner future."

I would guess this is why the tree huggers in our city want the Electric Utility Director fired.

Another significant roadblock for the EPA's proposal is its legality, given that just last year the Supreme Court smacked down a similar proposal that dated back to the Obama administration and ruled that the EPA had overstepped its boundaries and had not been authorized by Congress to enact such sweeping regulations on the energy sector.

New Government Study Finds Cleaner Air Leads to More Atlantic Hurricanes

Climate Control freaks will love this.

A new study conducted by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), a federal agency focused on the condition of the oceans and the atmosphere, found that cleaner air is leading to more hurricanes.

The study was written by Hiroyuki Murakami and published in Science Advances on Wednesday, a peer-reviewed multidisciplinary open-access scientific journal.

“A 50% decrease in pollution particles and droplets in Europe and the U.S. is linked to a 33% increase in Atlantic storm formation in the past couple decades, while the opposite is happening in the Pacific with more pollution and fewer typhoons,” AP reported.

Our coastal community has suffered for decades as a result of the massive freshwater discharges from Lake Okeechobee conducted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. While these discharges reduce the flood risk to communities south of Lake Okeechobee, they also cause considerable economic, environmental, and public health harms through toxic algal blooms.

This week I had the opportunity to question former FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate on why Florida's application for this issue to be declared a federal emergency was denied. His response was pretty clear: if Congress wants algal blooms to be considered a federal emergency, Congress should amend the Stafford Act.

This week I introduced my first bill, the Federal Do No Harm Act, to do exactly that. I'm committed to not only passing this legislation, but also working together to prevent this problem from occurring in the first place.

Pollution Limits

In three environmental regulation cases, the court found the Environmental Protection Agency violated the Clean Air Act by failing to undertake a cost-benefit analysis in deciding whether to set limits on emissions of mercury and other toxic pollutants from power plants.
