Russian drone nearly hit Zelenskyy's plane during takeoff from Moldova, Norwegian PM reveals
A Russian drone came dangerously close to striking Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's aircraft as it prepared to leave Moldova for a state funeral in Norway, an incident the Kremlin dismissed as a staged provocation.Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre disclosed the near-miss on Wednesday, telling Norwegian public broadcaster NRK that Zelenskyy's plane was "almost hit by a drone as it was about to take off from Moldova." Støre did not specify how close the drone came to the aircraft. But his account was blunt.
"His plane was almost hit by a drone as it was about to take off from Moldova. That is the reality he is facing."
Zelenskyy had traveled to Moldova en route to Oslo for the state funeral of Norway's King Harald V. His departure from Chișinău International Airport, Moldova's main civilian hub, was delayed Tuesday afternoon after Russian drones entered Moldovan airspace, forcing authorities to shut down all flights. Incoming planes were placed in holding patterns or diverted to neighboring countries.
