Florida Lawmakers Approve $115B Budget
Florida lawmakers signed off on a $115 billion state budget Monday night, capping an extended legislative session and sending the spending plan to Gov. Ron DeSantis.The budget, which funds state government through June 2026, trims $1.5 billion from the current year’s total and lands $500 million below the proposal DeSantis submitted at the start of the session. Besides the tax relief package, it is anchored by the repeal of the state’s business rent tax and a permanent back-to-school sales tax holiday.
The newly passed budget, which cuts $1.5 billion from current spending levels, includes $1.3 billion in tax relief and significant funding for school vouchers, emergency reserves, and pay raises for public employees
After weeks of negotiations, the House and Senate also agreed to put a proposed constitutional amendment on the ballot that would set aside $750 million a year, or up to 25% of general revenue, for emergencies.
