He's coming back for the New Year

Comment Up
Preston Smith of American Atheists appeared before
our city commission and the public on 12-2-2014

His recent message:

Dear Ms. Lopez,

I am hereby requesting available dates to give an upcoming atheistic invocation.

This year's invocation will invoke and summon the great and powerful Egyptian god Horus, whom the Jesus character is largely based upon.

It should be noted that during my last invocation on 12/2/14, Madam Mayor made a discriminatory oversight by failing to address me by name and title, "Preston Smith of American Atheists", as was clearly outlined on the agenda. Whereas, Mayor Triolo has consistently addressed every other invocation speaker by their name and religious affiliation. May I remind Mayor Triolo of the Lake Worth's Civil Rights Act, Section 20-1, which "...desires to secure for its citizens freedom from discrimination because of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, handicap or marital status and thereby to protect their interest in personal dignity..." (emphasis added).

Please also respond to the following concerns:

During my last invocation on 12/2/14, four out of five commissioners walked out of the room. The lone commissioner who stayed, Christopher McVoy, told the newspapers the walkout was disrespectful and "un-American." The article went on to say, he also found it "weird" that they all marched out at the same time, and wondered if there was any prior discussion amongst the group about their seemingly coordinated action. If there was, that would raise questions about a possible Sunshine Law violation. Two or more commissioners are not supposed to talk to each other about matters that might come up at meetings or official city business without public notice.

More importantly, according to Lake Worth Code of Ordinance, Section 2-248, "A majority of the commissioners constitutes a quorum for the purpose of conducting business..." If a quorum is present, the Council may proceed. In other words, if the walkout happens again and leaves a minority of commissioners in the chambers, I may very well stand there demanding a quorum, therefore calling on the Council to move to recess or adjourn

Best regards,
Preston Smith

In the meantime, satanist, Chaz Stevens is causing havoc.  Recently he started a satanic church, the nonprofit tax-exempt First Pompano Beach Church of Satan at 2637 E. Atlantic Blvd., the location of Parcels Plus, where his Yelp listing says “Abandon all hope. After all, this is Pompano Beach. For the rest, we offer salvation, ice cold, imported beer, and the occasional stripper named Mercedes.” So far the Church has received seven positive reviews. Source: Coral Springs Talk

And in another meantime, you can order your nativity set at WND.

Mr. Smith makes every other atheist look bad. Disrespect is no way to gain respect. I do agree with Mr. Smith that the mayor and Commission represent everyone. Even Mr. Smith. They may not agree with Mr. Smith, but they must as elected officials remain in the chambers. However, I as a citizen will be leaving the room while he speaks.I will also be praying for his soul. Lets hope when Mr. Smith's time comes he will be given one last chance not to spend eternity as Satan's toilet seat. Right next to the Hudson Holdings waste basket.

Great quorum point but isn't Horus the god they sacrificed babies to?

Hmmm, maybe no, I think it's goats and chickens...

Get rid of public prayer, citizens should not be forced to pray in order to do business with the City.

NO one, and I mean NO ONE is forced to pray.
The Supreme court ruled 5/4 on this issue.
Check with the United States Senate that opens every meeting with a prayer.

Let us remember, the Commissioners have an obligation to treat this fool equal to the others who give invocations. But the rest of us aren't, so bring it on Mr. Smith. But I'm sure your satan god will be watching over you

Of course you are forced to pray, you can spin it any way you like, but if you are coming to the City asking for relief and everyone up on the dias is praying you will feel like you have to conform. It is forced and shouldn't be permitted. Go pray in church, why do you have to force religion on the rest of us, is your religion so fragile and weak you have to get government endorsement for it.

Sorry--the invocation before the meeting is for all faiths. You don't want to participate, you don't have to. A little prayer doesn't hurt anyone. No one has a gun to your head.
