PBSO looking for volunteer Imams, Priests, Ministers for Chaplaincy unit

PBSO CHAPLAINCY UNIT EXPANDING—RECRUITING ADDITIONAL VOLUNTEERS
Retired Clergy of all faiths of particular interest

As the demand for services increases, the Chaplaincy Unit of the Palm Beach County Chaplaincy Unit is calling on the community of clergy to become a Sheriff’s office chaplain. Because 95% of current chaplains are full-time working clergy they fulfill their volunteer requirements in the late afternoon and evening. Retired clergy are needed to help provide “a ministry of presence” to daytime shift officers.

The PBSO chaplaincy is non-denominational in its service. It currently represents all three Abrahamic faiths. It is particularly interested in adding one or two additional Imams. It also is looking for someone of the Christian Orthodox faith, a faith tradition currently not represented in the chaplaincy. Additional Roman Catholic priests would also be a boon, according to Gralnick. Sometimes a chaplain of a particular faith is requested and if it is a Last Rites situation only a priest will do.

According to Unit Manager Bill Gralnick chaplains love their service because it is “pure ministry—no building funds, no boards and committees, only people who are in need of spiritual comfort.”

Chaplains are required to give eight contact hours a month, be on call on a rotating basis, attend as many monthly meetings as possible, and three quarterly training sessions.

They must be ordained and/or attended a certified seminary or religious institution of higher learning. They must be able to pass a background check and know in advance that when on call or riding along they will see the same things the officers see—the good, the bad, and the ugly. All chaplains are volunteers.

Chaplains are assigned to a district and/or a special unit. Their presence amongst the officers builds trust and creates a bond. The bond can be strong. Some officers have requested chaplains to do life cycle events for their families.

Those wishing to apply or seek more information should contact unit manager Bill Gralnick at Gralnickw@pbso.org.

Unfortunately, these are the spies, the child confiscators that will come to your house and take your children if you criticize the government.

Sounds nice but crime is on the decrease and we don't need these sold-out busybodies.

They will commit you also to a mental institution.

Don't confide in them. Don't call them. They will take your kids and put you in a rubber room for dubious reasons.

Just say NO. These people have NO reason to be working for law enforcement. It spells Trouble.
