Now it's the Florida Black Bear that might get screwed

Comment Up
Florida has no protection because of certain departments being downsized or not funded. The EPA is now looked at as unfavorable. Governor Scott told the Environmental Protection Agency that Florida didn't need water standards. Can you even imagine that? Even Allen West has recommended that EPA's budget be cut and has warned of its dangers.

Protection for the residents who live here are being quickly eroded by greedy developers and politicians who do not protect our State. And now our Black Bear, along with other endangered species, could be in danger too.

According to The Defenders of Wildlife, nearly 20 acres of wildlife habitat are being lost to development every hour in Florida, one of the most rapidly urbanizing states in the nation. To ensure survival of the Black Bear, it is critical that bear habitat, adjacent to and serving to link existing public lands, be purchased as public lands or managed by private landowners in a manner compatible with the long-term survival of the Florida black bear.

Now the State of Florida is considering kicking the black bear off the endangered species list along with 15 other species of mammals, fish, reptiles and birds. "Removing them from the list paves the way to re-open 'trophy' bear hunts, where hunters kill the creatures for hides or heads to display."

Our State is quickly falling apart. With Governor Rick Scott gutting the Growth Management Act, cutting all funding to Florida Forever Land Protection Program, it is now apparent that even our endangered animals, that we have a responsibility to protect, might end up with no safe habitats or defense under this government.

Florida Forever and the P2000 Program were responsible for purchasing more than 2.4 million acres out of the 9.8 million acres of conservation land in Florida. Our animals had a place to live their lives. What next?

Follow the money! A developer wants to develop what is now protected black bear habitat. The growth whores will do what their developer masters pay them to do. Screw the bears! They don't make huge campaign contributions!

That's BS Katie and you know it. You live on Black Bear habitat. One was removed from Wellington a few years back and later was killed by a car in west Virginia.

The Black Bears have the entire Everglades National Park, The Arthur Marshal Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge, The Ocala National Forest as well as countless natural areas all over the Southeast United States, not to mention the rest of the country.

If they show up in an urban environment, they should be trapped and moved. Otherwise they will be hit by a car and suffer.

yeah, the entire state was black bear country before it was developed..before Ponce de Leon discovered it. So what's your point? If they are off the endangered lost, they are game. Do y9u fight about everything?

Now you are picking on the little black bear. Can you think of anything else? Maybe you will be hit by a car or move to Wellington. Mr. know it all, hunting and trapping are allowed in national parks.

re you crazy? I do not live in a black bear habitat! This neighborhood has been here for over 60 years! What an idiot! I meant what I said- Follow the money ! A developer wants to move into what is now habiAtat for south Florida's black bear habitat! The state of Florida does not even have an accurate count on the bear population-but the growth whores are full agreement "Let's go shoot some Bear"! mode.Actually ,some developer like Huizinga of Puglisi probably got stuck with thousands of acres that they can't make money building condos on ,so the only way to make some money is to open it to hunters that want to kill every animal still managing to survive there. There has to be enough bears left to sustain a viable gene pool, plus the habitat to sustain them. Too much inbreeding will eventually lead to a bear with even more genetic problems than the anonymous poster that thought that bears still live in Lake Worth!!!
