Republican primary winner District 20 is ex-felon who never applied for the right to hold office
The winning Republican in the congressional District 20 primary is a convicted felon who did not go through the state’s process to restore his civil rights after his imprisonment, interviews and records show. That step is required under Florida law for a candidate to hold political office.Jason Mariner, 36, of Palm Beach Gardens, an advertising executive and self-described “America First” conservative candidate, won Tuesday’s GOP primary with 58 percent of votes in the heavily Democratic 20th Congressional District.

At this point, it's not going to make any difference in the general election as a Democrat will win but Republicans should never give up. The majority of this country will not accept socialism.
On the Democrats’ side, election officials were recounting ballots Thursday after Dale V.C. Holness led Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick by only 5 votes out of more than 49,000 votes cast.

You would do us all a favor if you looked up his record for the past year. This man has absolutely no credibility, and I'm glad I'm an NPA, or I might have voted for this grifter.
I know his record. He did the time.
He is better candidate than Omari. Or any biden appointee.
He didn't do any time for the vehicle violations he committed this year.
"In May 2014, police in Riviera Beach said Mariner spit at and tried to punch another driver, and damaged the other driver’s pickup, during a road rage incident in front of a Dunkin' Donuts.
Mariner also has a history of traffic violations, including tickets accusing him of speeding 93 mph on I-95 last year and careless driving earlier this year. His license was suspended during the summer until August, just before he began campaigning for Congress."
It's hard to believe that Republican Party has no one better than this guy to run...but then again...

This reflects very badly on the process for approving candidates eligible for primary elections.

Who knows if there were better candidates out there? They didn't run, did they? It would be like beating your head against a brick wall in that district.They didn't get the Sentinel's endorsement either.
Omari lost and that is the best news of all!
The fact is, you were wrong to support this guy, and even though anyone could make that kind of a mistake, you should be big enough to admit that you were wrong.
The guy is a bum in the park, and fortunately, everybody knows it now.

I did not support Mr.Mariner. If you have a problem with someone supporting him, write to the Sun Sentinel.
This blog was for info only and bringing it to the attention of liberals who love to attack people who once were down and out even though you went on a crusade in this state to allow convicted felons to vote. If they can vote, they should be able to run in an election.
In the meantime, Democrats really need to get their act together.
If I could have voted in District 20, Greg Musselwhite was the one I would have supported.

There is a process for felons to get back their rights. This guy didn't follow it.
Instead of propping up a deadbeat candidate or using it to once again whine about Democrats, how about admitting that this is not the kind of person Republicans want running as their candidates. There's no shame in that. In fact, readers may actually start thinking that you use your brain when selecting a candidate instead of just blindly voting for whoever has the "R" after their name. That's a good thing, you know.

You call him "interesting," Lynn. You say you didn't vote for him in the comments (you said nothing about it in the post) and you say nothing about the nature of his convictions or when he was convicted. For all the reader knows, it was 20 years ago instead of some of his troubles occurring just last year.
You get hostile with commenters when they fill in the blanks because of what you DON'T say. If you don't think a person will be a good candidate, Republican or Democrat, just say it. It's helps readers understand what you're thinking and it saves them from your abuse when they assume certain things.
People "fill in the blanks" based on their politics and biases.
I don't need to give an opinion on this person who got more votes than Omari Hardy. Now that IS interesting.
Almost everybody got more notes than Omari.
