Man overdoses on Lake Osborne Drive

Last evening, Lake Osborne Drive was saturated with firetrucks/paramedics and PBSO all trying to revive a 45 year old man who had overdosed. According to his stepfather, he has been struggling with addiction all his life.

Drug addiction is a complex disease. Quitting usually takes more than good intentions or a strong will. Drugs change the brain in ways that make quitting almost impossible.  We have so many people, not only in Lake Worth, but across the country who are addicted to drugs.

He was talking to his girlfriend on the phone when he overdosed. She knew where he was, called 911 and drove immediately to the scene. Paramedics arrived within minutes. Thank God he pulled his car to the side of the road. He lives somewhere near Bryant Park.

There were dozens of professionals there to save his life.

Thank you taxpayers

I'll never understand addiction. I will never understand how people decide to use an addictive drug. I can see where it might have started with pain pills and progressed to stronger insidious hard drugs but it's still difficult to understand it. Drug addiction is growing like a weed. And then we have states making marijuana legal for general use. Everyone knows hard drug use starts with a softer drug. Time to close our borders and stop the drugs from coming into our country.
BUILD THE WALL

Actually everyone who has researched the facts are amazed
that there is no direct link between pot and harder drugs.
Refer madness successfully brainwashed your generation.
It's the parents sharing their chill pills or dr giving 30
day supply of pain killers for 3-5 days of pain that have a
clear connection. Heroin is how black operations are funded
and the black areas are specifically targeted for sales and use.

Actually, the National Institute of Drug Abuse says differently. I believe that marijuana IS a gateway drug. And it has nothing to do with "my generation." There you go with your age discrimination again.
Whatever, we need to stop it.

Let's now justify people using drugs. Dont' we ahve enough of this in our city, anony 9:19? Sober Homes?

Using the gateway drug principle would also include alcohol, which is a stronger substance prone to physical addiction unlike cannabis.

How much money ,time ,etc. is spent each and every time on these overdoses? It's cheaper to recover a body than to revive one. It's cold, but that's what it's coming down to. We as taxpayers CANNOT continue to keep finding this crap. There needs to be a city wide public announcement that Lake Worth will no longer be responding to overdose cases. Just hauling the bodies away after the fact.If people want to end their lives ,I'm tired of paying first responders to stop them. Our first responders have better things to do-like saving the lives of people who are not trying to kill themselves.

9:19am YOUR generation has been successfully brainwashed to crave marijuana and deaden your brains.

10;19 I bet you wouldn't talk like that if it was one of your reletives or friends"if you have any"this happened to my brother 25 years ago and its not something to be swept under the rug.if you loudmouths would sit down and talk to others and every one listen to each other we might be able to find a solution.thats called brainstorming

Not trying to sweep anything under the rug. Just being realistic. And the reality is that if someone really wants to kill themselves, they will. You can beat your head against the wall until your limited brains fall out-and addicts will still abuse drugs. We cannot continue to waste our limited resources on these constant overdoses. Our first responders have to save the savable. Period .
