Maxwell went to Washington D.C. a little over two weeks ago to tour National's Park, which he claimed had helped to revitalize an area in much need of an economic boost — the same kind of boost Lake Worth hopes to get from a spring training complex at John Prince Park.
One of the most disturbing things about this commission is the secrecy and the lack of transparency. They take trips on the taxpayer dime and never have to disclose when, why or where. They never give a report. Occasionally we might hear a one liner or two well after the fact. It is apparent that this Resolution, to support John Prince Park as a location for a Spring Training stadium, was well known by some in the administration and in the works weeks ago.
We, as residents, have certain expectations of our elected officials--for them to do the necessary research and come up with the knowledge to make realistic and intelligent decisions, not those based on emotions and certainly not to act prematurely and beat people over the head with a baseball bat. The mayor said she had just learned of the Resolution four days before Tuesday's meeting. However, she had no problem supporting it without knowing one detail. Maybe Maxwell clued her in.
