As the City of Lake Worth concentrates on infrastructure at the Park of Commerce and pouring multi-millions of taxpayer money into that end, a dead person was found in the community pool at Palm Beach Mobile Home Park, a long time residential community located off of Boutwell Road for those over 55. The circumstances of the death are unknown other than an abrasion on the head of the deceased. Click here...
This is a park that has had a lot of crime over the last year...drug addicts and even a Sober Home is housed there. Crime has been escalating out of control. I have been told that the park residents have some private security help. Seniors are very vulnerable and criminals know it.

This is only a partial list of the crimes in that area. Drug addicts and dealers are committing crimes in broad daylight and the residents are scared, rightfully so. And as I understand it, no one from city hall ever reaches out to them.

One theory is that the owner of the park is deliberately letting it go to crap so that he drives the residents out and can sell the property. The residents need to get together and sue that POS.
The owner is an absentee but there is on-site management. What are they doing? I agree with you, @11:02. When you pay lot rent, you have certain expectations of safety and a quality of life.
I'm not someone that thinks the City can't focus on more than one issue at a time. Meaning they can work on roads while also addressing the escalating crime, but they are not doing so.
Crime and PBSO seems to be the third rail, if you just don't mention it or pay attention to it, it won't zap you? Seems to be their motto.
The largest part of our budget are non-controllable costs--that include retirement and employee salaries. There are many departments that concentrate on our operations. We have fallen down on the basics--slum, blight and crime and PBSO's budget went up for 2016/2017.
PBSO budget up because more man hours are needed to respond to more calls coming in for service. Just wait until Fire Rescue comes up for renewal...
Here's a thought, why don't you senior who are getting your concealed weapons permit form a posse and protect your people, I'm sure everyone will rest easier knowing you are on point.
Ha!
We pay over $12 mil a year for PBSO. I think they should be doing their jobs which is protecting our city...not citizens.
Another brilliant idea...must be from an elected.
ha!
Why do we pay more for PBSO than Welly, Welly is bigger both in space and population. They get more services for less money, can't our local officials negotiate as well as Welly??
the owner of that property should be held accountable for the security and safety there, agreed?
How is this, again, the fault of the Commission?
You publish the crime stats for LW all the time. Would so appreciate if once in a while, you also publish comparable stats for WPB or Boynton Beach, so we can really see if our town is the worst of the worst, as you make it sound.
Sadly, crime is everywhere. Especially in poor cities.
Your readers are not fans of development; theycomplain when finally brighter, SAFER lighting is put on our streets; attempts to get druggies out of our parks are all criticized..... I'm not so sure you can have it all...sadly.
While we remain a "poor" town, I'm afraid that will always attract a bad element.
This blog seems to hate 3 on the Commission to such a degree, that I feel they are blindly slammed with any and every suggestion/idea they put out to try and fix things.
Do you honestly, in your heart of hearts, believe what many of your commenters say; that the '3' are truly corrupt, have only selfish intent and are the worst thing to come down the pike for our town?
I personally do not believe that the likes of the defeated candidates in this last election would be coming up with ideal solutions for the problems we face.
Nor, do I believe that any of them would have evil intent - as you think of the '3'.
I am sad to see and hear the obstructionist views stated with such venom, constantly.
How redundant to hope for citizens who could work together.....doesn't seem like it will ever happen.
"Hate" is a big word. No one hates anyone on the dais. We do disagree on some items that affect this city.
The city is divided and to just say "we need to move this city forward," and then make decisions like not honoring the vote as an example, doesn't make it so, unfortunately. It leaves a very bad taste in the mouths of people.
I write a blog on issues in Lake Worth and do not have the time to write on other cities with similar problems. We are right near the tops for crime. We need to treat our homeless population in a humane manner and we must get rid of the addicts. We have so many problems and this commission is in charge. They have had nearly 5 years now to make a difference.
The basics are ignored and half the voters are too. It's a tough job in a city with so many problems.
Is this what "Moving Forward" looks like? After 1/3 of our taxes went to the POC?
its run down---dirty and look what lives in them--they should never let them in florida--they are death traps
pbso corrupt---bradshaw has to go
