It was Andy Amoroso who organized the vigil... pastor mike was not involved, he did not speak and was not on stage... so, please give credit where credit is due, and that it to Andy Amoroso.
Andy made the arrangements, lined up the community, religious and elected leaders as speakers, call the press. He and Jon Foust set up the tables, sound system, candles and vigil table to remember the victims; and these two gentlemen stayed after the gathering and torn everything down with the help of a couple of people like Mary Lindsey, and Marshall... but no where was mike olive, so please don't even go there as he is not someone we in the gay community would call among our allies.
The only Lake Worth Commissioners who spoke were Andy and Mayor Pam Triolo. I did see Ryan Maier, Chris McVoy and Scott Maxwell in the crowd.
You are absolutely right. It was a senseless act of hate and violence against our gay community and against all Americans.
We all must be vigilant, when someone orders a script for displays inappropriate behavior that threatens we must report it immediately.
We must demand that elected officials in Washington stop the loopholes and insert restrictions to buy for anyone in he do it fly list. We must enforce mandatory background checks on all gun purchases, private sales, Internet sales and gun show sales must follow the same background checks and waiting periods
So Commissioner Andy Amoroso took advantage of an enormous tragedy to promote himself and his friends. How ugly. If it really was an event for the community, and a true expression of sympathy and unity, all commissioners and religious leaders would have been invited to participate. Ryan Maier, the OTHER gay commissioner, who Andy HATES with every fiber in his being, was left to stand in the crowd. Shame, Andy. Shame for those who stick with this guy. I have been in town for 21 years, and I have to say he is really the worst commissioner we have ever had.
I'm a 67 year old native of Lake Worth and I think Andy is a great commissioner. I guess when you are the planner of events like this vigil, specifically Equality Florida's Roger Hendricks and our own Andy Amoroso, then you get to invite who you want to invite, like Tony from Compass, the Rev Dr Lea Brown from MCCPB, and Rabbi Barry... I didn't see Maxwell up there either… I did see McVoy try to jostle his way up there but he wasn't part of the lineup and did not speak.
Another thing, how many religious leaders and local elected leaders would you have up on the stage to talk... for hours? The leaders invited were those who in the past have been the most vocal supporters of LGBT people. Not those trying to 'jump the line' to draw attention to themselves. How pathetic.
This was about honoring the victims, the actual people that were killed in the worst massacre in US history, and the hate for gay people in particular.
It was a great event and widely attended by a somber crowd, and I applaud and thank all the people who came out to remember the victims; young, happy people, cut down far too soon by this outrageous violence.
Andy organized it, so he gets to invite whoever he wants to invite. Except that it was on city property and was permitted by the city. So here is another example of Andy Amoroso using the resources of the city to boost himself. If it was really about the victims, all commissioners would have been on the stage, or at least invited. If it was really about love and prayers, pastors and priests would have been invited. But they weren't. If it was about love and unity, the organizers would have expressed love and worked to unify. They did not. They excluded the people they don't like, and used the occasion to grab publicity. Shame, shame, shame. The truth is, the organizer of the event is the biggest hater in town. He is the one we need to fight if we want to have great love and acceptance of all.
The vigil was an important and needed event for our community, I'm sorry that you missed the memo, but all the commissioners were informed of the event by their secretary.
Florida Equality approached Andy Amoroso and together the event was orchestrated, quickly and without some 'hidden agenda' to capture attention or promote any person or entity. This was an event to help heal wounded hearts, share our hurt, diminish our fears, join together to find the light in one of the darkest moments in U.S. history, to mend and share community with all who are appalled and outraged about such hatred and such an terrible event.
This is not about shallow personalities feeling left out, it's was about the worst massacre in our countries history. 49 people killed and 53 wounded in a hate crime targeting gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender folks who happen to be in a gay bar where they thought they were safe to celebrate with their friends and family, to celebrate Gay Pride month and dance the night away at a very popular 'Latin Night'.
It is vulgar to attempt to misdirect attention away from the somber and respectful vigil we had this week with attacks upon the organizers, religious leaders, elected officials, and attendees. These are the very people who have a long and active history of advocacy for LGBT people, and these active activist for the LGBT community were and are the perfect people to represent us in times of need.
@8:50 p.m. perhaps you should do your research before making false statements. All commissioners were invited but not all responded. For once it would be nice to see you (and you know who you are) with empathy instead of hate.

What a great turnout. Thanks to the many people who came for love not politics. Thanks pastor Mike.

Thank you.
Vigils are nice but it doesn't cancel what happened.

It was a big crowd. Which commissioner was not there? I thought all were there.
While we are bickering the next terrorist attack is in planning we cannot afford to miss the signs.
