Florida Hometown Democracy

Does this woman have any idea how utterly STUPID this letter to the editor is in today’s Post? Was she on mushrooms or something?

Be careful, or we'll be governed like California

Advocates of the Florida Hometown Democracy amendment initiative claim that they have the solution to stopping irresponsible growth: Simply give citizens, not elected officials, the power to revise highly complicated long-term growth plans.

I hope this group will pause and realize the irony: If successful, the amendment will give considerable power to the very same voters who elected the public officials that advocates of Hometown Democracy blame for all that's wrong with Florida. Let's be careful what we ask for, or we'll quickly become another California, where governing via initiative and referendum, while well-intentioned, has proven to be a colossal failure.

First of all, Joanne, Florida Hometown Democracy has nothing to do with giving citizens the power to change long-term growth plans. This is what Florida Hometown Democracy wants to PREVENT!!

By allowing citizens in their own community to actually have a voice in any change that an elected official wants to make to our Comprehensive Plan, it will prevent everything that has been WRONG with Florida and all the changes they make for developers. It will take corruption totally out of the process.

How can anyone get so confused? Do you think she's been hanging out with Ryan too long or is this a member of the Chamber itself?
