US Signs Nuclear Cooperation Deal With Saudi Arabia
The agreement is expected to benefit U.S. companies and reduce Russian and Chinese influence in Saudi Arabia’s civilian nuclear sector.WASHINGTON—The United States and Saudi Arabia signed an agreement on July 22 that will allow the Gulf kingdom to develop a civilian nuclear program on its soil, the U.S. Department of Energy said in a statement.
The agreement may also allow for uranium enrichment in Saudi Arabia.
The 123 Agreement, named after Section 123 of the U.S. Atomic Energy Act, was signed by U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright and his Saudi counterpart, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman. Both sides also signed a bilateral safeguards agreement.
“Together, these two agreements lay the legal foundation for a decades-long, multi-billion-dollar partnership that advances several priority economic and strategic objectives, including nuclear nonproliferation,” the statement reads.
The 30-year agreement will give American companies a key role in developing Saudi Arabia’s nuclear infrastructure.

I am apprehensive about this deal. Is the U.S. being naive again? It counters Russian and Chinese influence in the Middle East and we maintain oversight they say.
I agree don't trust SA, their people caused 9/11. Don't trust any Islam Muslim country USA!
Trump has a personal relationship with the Saudis'; The Bush Family also had a close personal relationship with them. I can still see them walking together after 9/11. They say Blood is Thicker than Water. I guess vast sums of Money are thicker than Blood!
The 9/11 Commission Report, found no operational backing of the terrorist attacks by the senior leadership of the Saudi government. Bush did have a relationship with the Saudis. Trump's nuclear deal is contingent on Riyadh joining the Abraham Accords. It's a strategic relationship. So far, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Morocco have signed...we need way more to stailize the region.

After the 1973 oil embargo, the U.S. and Saudi Arabia negotiated a strategic partnership.
Saudi Arabia agreed to price its oil exclusively in U.S. dollars.
In return, the U.S. provided security guarantees, military support, and deep economic cooperation.
Saudi Arabia recycled its oil profits into U.S. Treasury bonds, becoming the largest foreign buyer in the early years.
This created the “petrodollar loop”:
World needs oil → must buy dollars. America was able to print money like it was monopoly money, but unlike other countries that printed as much as they "needed", America did not hyperinflate the dollar--because nearly every nation in the world was buying dollars to buy oil, and this also drove the dollar as the world's reserve currency.
And....Dollars flow to Saudi Arabia → Saudi invests in U.S. Treasuries. U.S. deficits become easier to finance → dollar strengthens. And so today, the Saudi Arabian government is an alliance we need to support.
