Capitol Police Remove Fauci Lawyer from Senate Hearing

Capitol Police escorted Dr. Anthony Fauci’s attorney out of a fiery Senate hearing Wednesday after Sen. Rand Paul accused him of repeatedly disrupting the proceedings.

The dramatic removal came as Fauci invoked the Fifth Amendment more than 100 times and faced warnings that Congress could pursue contempt charges over his refusal to answer questions.

Defense attorney David Schertler sat beside Fauci throughout the nearly four-hour Senate Homeland Security Committee hearing. Schertler repeatedly attempted to intervene after Paul warned that Fauci could face consequences for refusing to testify.

Paul told the attorney several times that he was not authorized to speak during the hearing. When Schertler continued addressing the committee, Paul ordered Capitol Police to remove him.

“Security, please remove him from the room,” the Kentucky Republican declared.
