Shanon Materio voted down as member of CRA

Nomination of former West Palm Beach city commissioner Shanon Materio to Lake Worth Beach CRA is rejected

Yes, Shanon--I agree with you--it was "personal." Residents in this city saw you in action back when you started as a member of the CRA on 1-23-2006 during your four year term that expired on 8-21-2209 that was not renewed.

Mrs. Materio has applied once again to "serve" on the Lake Worth CRA. Could it be that she wants the Dixie Corridor developed to help her business?

Commissioner Sarah Malega, who nominated Materio, chastised her colleagues on the dais for rejecting Materio while they "rubber-stamped two other recent nominees to the CRA." Actually, she was "pissed" when her nominee was voted down on a 3/2 vote and walked out of the room, calling for a 5  minute break. Commissioner Malega said several times that she did "her due diligence" regarding Materio. But Sarah moved to Lake Worth three years after Shanon left the CRA and did not know the feelings of many in the community. With all that D&D she says she did, did she ask any residents, you know, those she serves?

In the case of Shanon Materio, the majority on the present dais voted her appointment down. That is democracy, no? There were reasons, whether revealed or not, as our commissioners want to work in a positive vein which is politically smart.

But chastising is nothing new for Commissioner Malega. Before she became a commissioner she said this about her opponent Scott Maxwell: "If you do not look like him, speak like him or have the same skin tone, he considers those residents who may not have full residency here in the United States or Lake Worth (Beach) less than. And I just don't think that's the humane way to go."

I agree that racism is stupid and Democrats use it all the time to try and win points but Scott Maxwell was and is NOT a racist. Just ask former commissioner Retha Lowe. He just believes in elected officials following the law. But we see a lot of over-the-top comments during elections.

And for the record, I think Sarah is one of the sharpest new commissioners that we have. She just failed on her D&D and believed in the shiny object, the resume.

Sarah was mad because she believed that her nominee would be rubber-stamped in. Didn't happen. I believe we need to go back to the way we used to do it: interview all applicants in the sunshine with the public invited for the interview process. I don't recall they ever interviewed on weekends as Christopher recalls but after work hours during the week. The interviews were held in the Conference room and each applicant was called in after the preceding one had spoken. They never got to hear what other applicants had to say or to get a feel as to what the commissioners were thinking. During that process, they could evaluate the strengths of the applicants and even suggest that they be a part of another city board.

Government in the sunshine allows the public and the commissioners to see whom they want to support.
Michael Bornstein kept the public out of as much as he could get away with.
Sarah Malega seems unfamiliar with Shannon Materio's record on the CRA board and her self serving votes
and long winded speeches on issues.
Our new Mayor and Commission made the right decision.

Lake Worth city commission is a joke.

Oh wait, let me get back to you on that, we are new at this. We need time!

Losers, all of them.

Thankfully the commission got it right. No idea why Sarah and Betty want Shanon back meddling in Lake Worth Beach business. Sarah's overuse of the "due diligence" term is as vague as the term itself. At first glance, it sounds positive. However, due diligence is subjective and follows no clear objective criteria. Here, it was merely an excuse. Sarah, who is clearly inteligent, should do herself a favor and really do her own investigation of all facts not just the ones she wants to hear to back her own agenda or personal preference.

Evil just keeps on a' creepin back into our city! What a herpes sore of a person -she keeps popping up and we can't seem to get rid of her. I thought we had seen the last of that mobster's daughter. Shannon = giving away our beach (we would have had NO beach and condos if her "friend" had had his way. Good thing he screwed the Pizza King and not our city!) We had to fight tooth and nail to not let this BWITCH Materio totally rape Lake Worth.
