Pelosi household poured millions into Bloom Energy weeks before S&P 500 announcement sent shares surging
Nancy Pelosi's latest financial disclosure reveals her household sank between $3 million and $12 million into Bloom Energy stock and options just weeks before the company's addition to the S&P 500 sent shares up nearly 40%.The former House Speaker signed a transaction report on August 21 detailing two rounds of purchases in the San Jose, California-based fuel cell maker, trades that, once again, preceded a major catalyst for the stock.
Bloom Energy closed at $277.22 per share on Tuesday, more than doubling year-to-date and climbing more than 400% over the past twelve months. The company now carries a market cap of nearly $83 billion.
The timing raises the same question that has trailed the Pelosi household for years: how does a retired lawmaker's portfolio keep landing on the right side of market-moving news before the rest of Wall Street catches up?
Pelosi will retire when her current term ends on January 3, 2027.
