Karoline Leavitt’s Top Replacement Emerges After Sudden White House Exit

White House communications director Steven Cheung is emerging as one of the leading contenders to replace departing Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.

Cheung, a longtime Trump adviser known for his combative defense of the president, already helped cover some of Leavitt’s responsibilities while she was on maternity leave.

Cheung Seen as Natural Fit--Cheung currently serves as White House communications director. Pundits have pointed to him as a natural candidate for the press secretary role. He already works closely with President Trump and the administration’s communications operation.

Cheung also helped handle some of Leavitt’s duties while she was away on maternity leave. White House press secretaries have traditionally been promoted from within the communications team.
