How Florida grandparents could help their out-of-state grandkids pay in-state tuition
The measure HB 1273 is dubbed the “grandparent tuition waiver bill” by House sponsor Patt Maney, R-Shalimar.Under the proposed bill, out of state students who score in the 89th percentile or better on their standardized testing and have a grandparent who lives in Florida full time, would qualify to pay the instate rate at the 11 Florida public schools.
What a cunning/selfish way to cheat to help your grandchildren get a reduction in tuition costs to Florida colleges/universities. I agree with Omari Hardy on this one--

What percentage of graduates stay close to their college? (serious question).
It MAY keep a higher percentage of successful workers in our state. We need to attract highly skilled workers. Not sure if this was their ideology. We cant keep taking in low level workers, and expect the state flourish.
It's not fair to Florida Students, and what are they going to do, live in a 1 bedroom over 55 community with their grandparents. Most grandparents are just as happy to see the kids go, as they are to see them come for a visit.
Only an idiot would come up with an idea like this. It's not much different than the granny flats.
Spare me, just a couple of months ago, we were afraid the kids were going to contaminate grandma and grandpa.

I'm curious 4:19, as to what you mean by highly skilled workers? Sounds very mechanical to me. We already have North Tech, South Tech, and many other schools to teach such skills, which I would agree, are very valuable.
Not usually what people go to college for. I'm sure we will get plenty of people down here, Skilled, Unskilled, and Professional, without burdening Grandma and Grandpa.
