Some memorable (paraphrased) quotes regarding Sober Homes, addicts and crime in our neighborhood from last night's commission meeting:
Commissioner Christopher McVoy: There is an urgency. We can't mess around. We're not responding. We need to send a message to make a difference.
Vice Mayor Scott Maxwell: The Federal government is screwing us with sober homes. Code enforcement at the State level is failing us. We need more teeth in Statute 162. Maybe it's time to crack a few eggs.
Mayor Pam Triolo: Sober Homes (the problems they generate) are escalating faster than we ever thought they would. We need help now!

I heard a brief clip on the news sometime in the last 2 days that Shelly Vana was looking to make it illegal to fly people down here to sober homes for free. Not that I trust Shelly Vana anymore, but this would at least put some brakes on our ever enlarging IMPORTED homeless druggie problem. Can anyone shed any light on this??
This IS ruining neighborhoods one scumbag slumlord at a time. Turning former safe places to live into crime blighted drug houses. And killing people's kids sent south to detox in the sun.
I still see no reason they cannot be held to local code enforcement laws. And the ultimate irony: they don't even need to be ADA compliant while claiming protections under the ADA.
I agree totally about politicians. But if we could at least stop the flow into our state as a freebe that would certainly help.
