Former Mayor of Lake Worth and now State Rep. Jeff Clemens is moving forward with his idea of legalizing medical marijuana. There are some benefits to this product and it has been used to treat many diseases.
The problem with any addictive substance--it will be abused. All of a sudden you will see cannabis crops springing up all over the country. Hey, that's something we could grow up there on Sunset. It's ignored by Code anyway. Think of the possibilities. It could get us out of our financial (non) urgency.
It could be worse--Panagioti wants to legalize it period. That's what these Occupier Groups remind me of-- back in the mid to late 60's and the Haight Ashbury Days. All they need now is the weed and the psychedelic rock music and Jeff wants to give it to them. Can't you envision it now? "If you give me another special assessment I will have depression; I've got Schizophrenia or bipolar disorder; I have the Wall Street blues; I demand open borders or I will be psycho--one half of the city stays high.

We could start a farm in the Park of Commerce.
IMO marijuana should be legalized. Think of the Taxes that could be applied. The Government, would be able to pay down the deficit in a New York minute.
Just think how happy our commissioners would be--it would totally calm down Maxwell. He probably would vote to give Stanton a raise and Mulvehill would be smiling when there is a vote AGAINST the city manager's wishes. Wow, what a sight to think about.
The city is going to pot why shouldn't its' citizens.
I would not go that far Lynn, I do not think Maxwell would ever get that friendly with Stanton.

When southern Florida resident Nathan Radlich's house was burglarized recently, thieves ignored his wide screen plasma TV, his VCR, and even left his Rolex watch.
What they did take, however, was a "generic white cardboard box filled with a grayish-white powder." (That's the way the police report described it ) A spokesman for the Fort Lauderdale police said, that "it looked similar to high grade cocaine and they'd probably thought they'd hit the big time."
Later, Nathan stood in front of numerous TV cameras and pleaded with the burglars: "Please return the cremated remains of my sister, Gertrude. She died three years ago."
The next morning, the bullet-riddled corpse of a local drug dealer known as Hoochie Pevens was found on Nathan's doorstep. The cardboard box was there too; about half of Gertrude's ashes remained.
Taped to the box was this note which said: "Hoochie sold us the bogus blow so we wasted Hoochie. Sorry we snorted your sister. No hard feelings. Have a nice day."

Yes the ashes were stolen, but the part about appealing on TV is not true, and there was never a bullet ridden corpse left on Nathan's door step. The police never thought the ashes were mistaken for cocaine.
It's best to check out stories like this before accepting them as true.
If anyone took this as "true" then shame on them. Did I say it was true? Where is your sense of humor? Also, to go to the trouble of looking it up on Snopes--really, now. God, everyone needs to get a life or go smoke pot. :) Only in LW.
Alcohol is an addictive substance, yet is is legal.. If a person has an addictive personality the could easily become addicted to asprin. Legalize it, tax it. and end the BS
Vice Mayor Mulvehill neither smokes pot or drinks any kind of alcohol. I have been friends with her for years and she is totally anti-drugs and alcohol. I know nothing of Commissioner Maxwell. I believe you owe the Vice Mayor an apology and I expect more from you as I have come to respect your in-depth research and reporting capabilities. I always thought you spoke the truth. Aspirin is definitely NOT a narcotic.
No but alcohol is a mind altering substance, and it is legal. You took the comment out of context it says someone with an addictive personality could easily become addicted to aspirin, or exercise or gambling. Should I continue?

Just because it's legal doesn't mean it's legal or appropriate to use before or during a commission meeting, while driving, or in any other professional situation. Using that logic, they could all be drunk up there and it would be ok. But it isn't and even if legal, it would be just as improper to be high at a meeting. Legalize it, don't criticize it. Just in case you weren't aware, the movie "Reefer Madness" was fear based false propaganda.

The biggest point here is not really physical addiction regarding Marijuana, but rather the idea of psychological addiction is what is important. This is because Marijuana is very addictive to some people in a psychological sense because the person uses the drug to basically escape reality and to medicate their feelings.
Which is exactly what the citizens of Lake Worth need to be doing (escape reality ) with the Bozo's we have sitting on the Dias, and their Ring Leader Stanton.
I would venture to say that TV is more addictive than pot. The definition of an addiction is that is imposing upon other parts of your life, not whether it has mild altering effects. How many hours does the average American waste of their lives watching tv...? Answer: Just a little less than 7!! That sounds like an imposition on other parts of life. So I'd say it's time to outlaw TV.
