I am sure that most of you have seen the new benches in front of City Hall. In fact, they dot the downtown.
The city has taken a pro-active approach to discourage the homeless from sleeping on city benches or staying in city parks. As a deterrent, they even played classical music at night in the Cultural Plaza several years ago where many were hanging out.
The County must come up with a solution to deal with the Homeless rather than allowing them to be transported from surrounding cities and live in John Prince Park. The County is allowing the homeless to live there and stay after dark even though the law says you have to be out of the park from dusk to dawn. That rule is only for those who pick up the tab for all that is going on in the park.
The County is in the process of bringing in port-o-lets and the homeless are living under pavilions where families have picnics. Next we could see tent city there like L.A. or S.F. as homelessness is up 12% in Los Angeles that now has 60,000 Homeless. This is a Sanctuary state that is also welcoming the homeless. Most of them like to wander to wherever the weather is compatible and where they won't be hassled. Cities are throwing up there hands with solutions as to how to get the chronically homeless off the streets.
So, what do elected officials do next? Here in Palm Beach County they have been trying to do something about the opioid crisis with addiction causing the largest percentage of homelessness. Now a Needle Exchange Program is in effect. Ignoring the situation or enabling these folks is not working. Other area cities that have been overwhelmed with homelessness are getting rid of their problem by transporting them here to John Prince Park by invitation of the Palm Beach County Commission.

The most homeless reside in politically liberal cities: Philadelphia, Las Vegas, Boston, San Jose, San Francisco, Dist of Columbia, San Diego, Los Angeles with the number one city, New York, with 13% of all homeless people in the United States living there.

Does 9:01 have any brains at all? How stupid. You can see all the homeless and illegals, they reek havoc on the city and have for the past 20+ years, it is out of control, so much crime and blight. Just keep letting them have the churches give them food and all, yet they don't eat it and trash it, they only want alcohol and drugs, they don't even want the Jesus the churches try to bring to them. When our we going to offer them real help?

I don't care what you do. Go for it, Einstein. There are always exceptions to every rule. Illegals are all over the damn country. I mentioned the top ten cities housing illegals. Start investiating all the sanctuary cities in this country. Do that first. :)

John Prince Park is a shithole, it has been improperly maintained for 20 plus years. It’s no wonder the vagrants feel at home at this park it’s a nasty mess.
Do you ever see any of the city elected or manager doing anything about all the homeless living in Bryant Park? They never send the police there, allow them to be there all night although it says it is supposed to be closed, liberal leaders here you bet, this is crazy, most people and kids do not even feel safe going to Bryant Park anymore with all the homeless and vagrants hanging out there, it is not nice, they city does not take care of this park for THE PEOPLE!
Doesn’t Sarasota fine the homeless $450. an incident for sleeping outside? Of course they can’t pay it, but after a time they get a criminal record for not paying. I read this on a forum somewhere. One homeless guy said he was embarrassed to tell his kids about his situation. But he’s not too embarrassed to be a burden to Sarasota.

Lynn@8:54- the post was on city-data. Some people posted that the fine was no longer true. Per google I guess it isn’t. However you’ll find many other articles online about people not wanting to move to Sarasota due to its homeless problem. It was an honest oversight on my part.

One night while out for a bike ride I paused by a bench on Lakeside ( by the street, not in the park) as I heard a screech owl in the trees and wanted to see it. It was dusk. About 10 seconds later a deputy pulled up and demanded that I leave immediately. I honestly did have to tie my shoe, but as I stopped to do that he got really nasty and threatened to arrest me. So, at least this deputy was on the ball.
But it’s sad that it’s gotten to the point that things are so bad you can’t even check out the owls in the park because of the homeless and other dangers.
