Nobody is doing more for the Everglades or the problems in the St. Lucie and Caloosahatchee estuaries than Gov. Rick Scott -- and frankly, nobody gets less credit for it from the people who will benefit most.
And the governor announced more Wednesday: his intention to propose additional funding in his 2017-2018 budget to help local communities deal with the fetid, algae-choked bodies of water in Martin, St. Lucie and Lee counties on a more personal basis.

Rick Scott is a putrid asshole. He is only now showboating because the people anger and outrage have boiled over with this disaster.
It was Rock Scott that line item vetoed the funding to buy the land to redirect Lake O flow. All at the expense of the Treasure Coast and Palm Beaches along with the Ft Myers citizens are getting dumped on with this catastrophic ecological and economic disaster. Rick Scott should be empeached.
Rick Scott is a good governor.
He has criticized the Obama administration and the Corps for the pollutant discharges. Federal regulations, conservation mandates, and stalled projects have also complicated local efforts to direct more water south of the lake into the Everglades, the AP reports.
"The state, as you know, doesn't have any control over Lake Okeechobee," Scott told reporters in West Palm Beach on Tuesday. “The federal government has got to put the money in to be able to hold more water there when we have a rainy year like we have now. It's 100 percent controlled by the federal government."
BUY THE LAND
Yes, buy the land the people of Florida demand by releasing the funds already committed - no more stalling Gov 'there is no climate change or sea level rise' Scott
The crisis is NOW. What has he done now? Nada. We are losing our estuaries and beaches. Tourism anyone? How about toxic green disgusting slime for your next vacation?
This is what should have been done long ago when the amendment was passed. I fault both our do nothing but serve big sugar legislature and Rick Scott. Future promises do nothing to make up for this gross inaction. Saying it is all just the Fed's fault is more passing the buck. Yes, the Army Corp of Engineers is ultimately in charge but just laying down and condoning trashing of the environment is no excuse. What about all the plans to divert the water out of our estuaries? And for Lord's sake why can't we hold big sugar and big Ag responsible for their own pollution. They have been dumping excess nitrogen and phosphorus into our water for eons. This is a violation of the clean air and water act. But same old, same old. They pollute and it's the taxpayer who gets caught for the bill.
Saying Rick Scott is for the environment is almost like saying the Pope just stood up for abortion rights--
Just for the record: The Florida Sugar Industry contributed $500k to Marco Rubio's campaign, and $1million to Rick Scott's 2014 campaign. I would consider this amount of money enough to make the candidates beholden to Big Sugar for a long time.
Check into Patrick Murphy's contributors.
Large Individual Contributions
$5,747,857 (75%)
Murphy received $1.41 million from the "finance, insurance and real estate" sector in the 2016 election cycle.
Everyone gets campaign contributions.
Take our Trio in Lake Worth as an example--all three took money from a convicted felon with downtown businesses.
You're comparing apples to oranges. We're talking about algae!
Oh, I thought you were talking about campaign contributions...trying to slam Republicans again.
